Marquise Hill

Position: Defensive End
College: Louisiana State
Height: 6-6
Weight: 297
Hometown: New Orleans, La.

OVERVIEW

One of the most imposing figures on the Louisiana State team, Hill is a player with all the tools necessary to be a dominating defensive lineman at the next level … He has tremendous size and strength and continues to sharpen fundamentals … Marquise is a powerful pass rusher who simply explodes off the ball … He has a tremendous wing span and frequently bats down passes at the line of scrimmage … Started 24 of 38 games at right defensive end, recording 117 tackles (67 solos) with 10 sacks for minus-75 yards, 19½ stops for losses of 106 yards, 36 quarterback pressures, a fumble recovery, two forced fumbles, an interception and nine pass deflections.

ANALYSIS

Positives: Has excellent size with fluid lateral movement, quick feet and good balance … Shows above-average explosion off the snap and into blockers, showing the power to dominate and displace blockers … Has impressive upper-body strength he uses quite efficiently to disengage and get separation … Shows good hand usage to snatch and pull down blockers … Has surprising quickness in his lateral movement for a player his size … Effective tackler working in-line and in space, maintaining balance on the move … Shows an above-average burst to close on ball carriers in the short area and even better quickness to pursue long … When he plays at a low pad level, he generates proper strength and speed to affect the pass protection … Has the power needed to push the pocket on a bull rush … Fights hard in the trenches and works with good leverage … Has the agility and hand usage to stay on his feet when avoiding low blocks … Has the speed to drop back in coverage sometimes to take on the tight end in the short zone … Hard to block when in a two-point stance due to his power, quickness and leg drive … Can get on a blocker's edge quickly thanks to his body lean and upfield burst.

Negatives: While he plays with strength and leverage, he can still be overwhelmed at the point of attack (needs to get his hands up quicker to protect his chest and prevent blockers from locking on) … Still developing as a pass rusher, as he can generate pressure with his speed and strength, but does not seem to quickly recognize the play to locate the quarterback … Uses his hands well to pull and snatch blockers, but will revert to spinning in attempts to separate rather than stack and shed … Seems a little lethargic late in games (stamina issues) … Has the physical tools to be a strong tackler, but prefers to reach or club ball carriers rather than stalk, wrap and secure … Needs to improve his football instincts when coming through the back side (instincts at times are slow).
