Game: Name a Band's Best Song

Here's another thread in the timeless tradition of Planet games for the interminable off-season.

Here's how this goes.

A poster names the best song by a particular band.

You can agree, disagree, name a different song by that band, state that every song by that band sucks, whatever. Also, you don't have to respond to the most recent post, you can chime in on anyone else's suggestion.

Then you name a different band, and a song by that band (doesn't have to be a band - could be a singer, or songwriter, or composer, or the friggin' Mormon Tabernacle Choir).

Naturally, if you name an obscure song by an obscure band, you won't get much feedback.

I'll start us off.

Band: Steely Dan
Best Song: Doctor Wu

I like Pretzel Logic the best but Doctor Wu is awesome too.

Ok

The Who

Gr8 idea for a thread.

Steely Dan has so many gr8 tunes. I always loved "Do It Again", particularly the percussion.

Dire Straits "Down To The Waterline".

Great calls on Pretzel Logic, Comfortably Numb and 2112 (although my personal favorite is Witchhunt.)

"I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" is one of the few Aerosmith songs I absolutely cannot stand.

Clapton - Layla (the Acoustic Version)

Allman Bros - Melissa

Jethro Tull - Locomotive Breath

The Who - Baba O'Riley

Heart - Crazy on You

The Beatles - She Said, She Said

Kansas - Carry On My Wayward Son

Frank Zappa - Joe's Garage

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Life By The Drop

The Clash - London Calling

Aerosmith - Dream On

Is 'Last Child' to your liking? It was my other choice.

Alison Krauss' voice is almost like an alien's. Hauntingly beautiful, but at the same time vaguely unsettling.

Rolling Stones Beast of Burden

Queen Bohemian Rhapsody

Moody Blues In Your Wildest Dreams

Tina Turner Better Be Good To Me

Van Morrison Moondance

The Smiths How Soon Is Now?

OMD So In Love

Elvis Presley Stuck On You

Van The Man has lots of great songs.

Can't quibble too much with your selection,
But upon further reflection
There are songs from the Wavelength album
That compete with Moondance for my affection.

This thread is fun, and wracks the brain
A song pushes forward then retreats again;
A guitar riff, vocal or drum solo compete
With well-turned phrases and rockin' in your seat.

Great songs get inside you, and hold you entranced;
Conjure memories of good times and lovers romanced.
While 'best' lists aren't at all scientific,
The songs listed here are all joy-based specific.

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb (Us & Them #2?)

Doesn't approach One Of These Days, in my book.

I also prefer Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

Here's another band and best song.

Band: Yes
Best song: Starship Trooper

I'm not sure Won't Get Fooled Again is even the best song on Who's Next (I'm partial to Bargain due to Keith Moon's outstanding drumming).

But a worthy choice.

If its Keith Moon you like gotta go with "I Can See For Miles" (Ohhh Yeaah)

Steely Dan = Deacon Blues

ABBA - The Winner Takes It All..... This song haunts me....

Layla? You do realize that's Duane Allman on slide, yes?

Allman Brothers? In memory of Elizabeth Reed

Tull? Thick as a Brick.

Kansas? Icarus born on wings of steel

Zappa? Andy or Peaches en regalia, depending on my mood

I'll toss in a few new ones.

Boz Scaggs: Loan me a dime
Grateful Dead: Goin down the road
Yes: Starship Troopers or Ritual
Rolling Stones: Can't you hear me knocking
Jeff Beck: Scatterbrain
Renaissance: Trip to the fair
Simon & Garfunkel: The Boxer

Boz - agree (there's Duane Allman again)
Dead - Sugar Magnolia
Renaissance - Ashes Are Burning (live version)
S&G - agree
