Game: Name a Band's Best Song

Boz - agree (there's Duane Allman again)
Dead - Sugar Magnolia
Renaissance - Ashes Are Burning (live version)
S&G - agree

Well it's borderline impossible to pick one Dead song. :coffee:

I went with Trip to the Fair because I bought a half speed master LP of Scheherazade And Other Stories back in the day, and it sounded just so beautiful.

Part of what made Renaissance so enjoyable was the blending of all the different sounds, and Annie's voice of course, and the live album was just a little muddled for my tastes.

I'm not sure Won't Get Fooled Again is even the best song on Who's Next (I'm partial to Bargain due to Keith Moon's outstanding drumming).

But a worthy choice.

I thought "wont get fooled again" was on the George W Bush`s 'Best of" Album?

Anyways....heres mine..Zamfir:Flutes need love too.

Agree about any Dennis DeYoung ballad being the best Styx song.

IMO Best classic Styx song is "Come Sail Away."
Best Styx song that no one has heard: "These Are the Times" from the Cyclorama record.

If you are a Styx fan and haven't heard this song - go find it somewhere and check it out.

Next band is Rush.
Best song: 2112 - the entire suite.

Hmmm, since Rush has always been my favorite, cannot NOT post on this one.

2112? Hate to say it, but most non Rush Fans dont even know what 2112 is. it was certainly their biggest and break out album at that time, and it actually brings back one of my best growing up memories at 16 years old, going to Florida to stay with the Grandma for a whole month. Hooking up with a hot young lady for most of the month, going to the beach every day with mind altering substances in a friends car who just happened to be cranking 2112 every day!

IMO(Moving pictures probably best and biggest) and my personal favorite song(and there are many) is "Red Barchetta".

Velvet Underground - Oh Sweet nuthin

Following up on OPTs Jeff Beck mention - if I'm in the mood to crank something, I would choose Beck's Bolero, but there's a lot of good stuff by him.

Singer/Songwriter: Bob Dylan
Best Song: Ballad Of A Thin Man

The Who = Pinball Wizard

Jethro Tull = Aqualung

Rush = Working Man

The Beatles = Hey Jude

Styx = Mr. Roboto

Queen = Killer Queen

Rolling Stones = Paint it Black

Pink Floyd = Wish You Were Here

Kansas = Dust in the Wind

Grateful Dead = Ripple

Simon and Garfunkel = Sound of Silence

I am - that article is a joke. Hey Jude is a masterpiece and invented the rock fadeout. I admit, it's tough to pick a "greatest" song by the Beatles, there are so many contenders - Yesterday, A Day In the Life, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Eleanor Rigby....it goes on and on. But I have to say Hey Jude is their best.

My contribution, by the way, is one of my faves Electric Light Orchestra.

Greatest Song = Here is the News

Doesn't approach One Of These Days, in my book.

I also prefer Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

Good call on both songs TR. I'd have to say, however, that my favorite Floyd song is The Great Gig in the Sky.

Best recording of a woman having an orgasm that I've ever heard, that's for sure. :D

I think they started to get away from their roots just after Moving Pictures. It's a great album but the followup (Signals) was terrible. My favorite song from Moving Pictures has to be "YYZ."

Alison Krauss...? Who the hell is that?
I see if our interweb love affair is going to get anywhere I'll need to kidnap you to a remote cabin and do a Kathy Bates on you for your own good. :doh:

For my twin brother MikieMo, our song:
