Better Cover Version: René Marie

Yes, that's right. She sings Suzanne while the band play Bolero

+1 That was gorgeous. thank you.

But I am a huge Leonard Cohen fan and feel an uncontrollable need to credit him as both writer and original artist. It was the very first song he ever recorded, track one on his debut album, The Songs of Leonard Cohen, from 12/67.

Judy Collins had a great cover as did Nina. I love Cohen's voice and style so I'm giving him the edge but your's is a strong 2nd. IMO, don't you know.

Leonard Cohen is amazing, but I kind of think he's a lot like Dylan: any remake of one of his songs is goign to be better than the original.

With a Little Help From My Friends was mentioned earlier in the thread. The Joe Cocker version is the one most probably associate the song with. Shinedown started covering this tune on their last tour with Will Hoge. Pretty good stuff. This clip is an encore so the song doesn't start until about the 4 minute mark.

One of the more bizarre and yet compelling cover bands I've ever run across is the great Run C&W AKA the Burn Brothers (the world's first non-identical quadruplets) who covered many of the great soul/Motown/R&B classics the way God intended for them to be played.

Bluegrass style.

Here is a live recording of them from the Isle of Wight Bread festival covering Sam & Dave's epic "Hold On I'm Coming".
