Random Jets Stuff Thread

I hope the Jets are planning on starting Darnold right away, because it's complete and total insanity.

He's got skills and can look really good for stretches, but they'll be risking screwing the kid up permanently when he struggles and turns it over, which is going to happen. He's just not ready enough. Mature enough.

Sometimes you see these teams do the Groundhog Day thing and shake your head, but we don't really know if McCown is going to be the man there or what at this point.

In any case, I've always liked Bridgewater and am happy to see that he got out of there while he is still whole.

As an aside, the rookie QB class looks better than expected from what I've seen. I've watched a fair bit of Josh Allen and he's looked more advanced than I thought. He'll be starting soon. Josh Rosen has made some quite impressive throws down in Arizona before getting banged up and Mayfield looks like Mayfield in Cleveland.

Rosen is a dickhead, but he's got one of the best arms to come into this league in a long time. He throws fucking lasers.

There’s no doubt they had to trade Teddy but you’d think they’d start him for the first 2 or 3 games. It would’ve given The Ginger some time to see how actual games go and maybe raise the asking price for Teddy if he played well.

I honestly don't even understand the logic. The way I see it, there are 4 possibilities:

1) They think Sam Darnold can play, and play now, and they're ready to contend. In that case, you should have gotten an asset you can use now, rather than trading a known asset for an unknown future resource.

2) They think Sam Darnold can play, but they don't think they can contend this year. In that case, you should have kept Teddy and avoided starting him his rookie year, giving him time to develop rather than exposing him to injury concerns before you're a contender.

3) They don't think Sam Darnold can play, and they hate their fans and football in general, and are committed to sabotaging their chances at every opportunity.

4) They have absolutely no idea whether Sam Darnold can play, or what they're doing, or what's even going on, and have their heads stuck so far up somewhere that when some intern said "hey why don't we trade our best QB for a rookie or two of unknown quality next year and hope for the best?" it sounded like a good idea.

JETE gonna JETE indeed.

Some combination of 3 and 4.

That first 4 games is a hoot.

@Detroit, home for Miami, which should be a win, @Cleveland, who will be primed for their first win in a year and a half, and @Jacksonville.

That looks like a 1-3 start at best, to me. With a streak-breaking loss to Cleveland.

It's 4. Of course it's 4. JETE gonna JETE. "It worked with Mark Sanchez". *looks at the defensive side of the ball. Doesn't see the same #1 defense Sanchez inherited*

Sometimes you really have to wonder if anybody else in the division is even trying...

Permanent? I doubt that. Lots of players struggle in year 1, do better in year 2 or 3. Manning started year one, sucked and went 3-13, struggled badly and turned it over a lot. Wasn't permanent - went 13-3 year two.

He'll be fine.

Patrick Ramsey went the opposite way, but that was more the fault of Spurrier than being permanently screwed up because the threw a couple picks.

This announcer stinks. She just Screwed women’s lib, setting it back 25 years... god I rather listen to stuttering John read the phone book of Mexico City!!

Overall, I was impressed with The Ginger. I watched the game with some friends and of course, we laighed our asses off at his first ever throw but he rebounded nicely.

Seemed more like a pre-season game to me. The Lions WR would run their route and then stand around watching the play develop if the ball wasn't thrown their way. Detroit players didn't appear that into it from what I saw.

Admittedly, I only watched the first half.

Most teams don’t look very sharp at the start of the season. I liked what I saw but there’s a long way to go and they’ll have a short turnaround for the next two games so we’ll see how Sam handles things moving forward.

effortless Lions got their asses handed to them. I was shocked at hom many just seemed to not care, give up.

I assume Blount is there to show the way. like BB brought in some old Giants when he arrived. I don't think it is working.

I know you guys are probably dancing in the streets today. Hate to say it, but Darnold looked impressive. Time will tell if this was the real deal or if you just played a Detroit team run by a guy who probably has internalized BFB's thought process of treating the first 4 games of the season like extended preseason...but congrats. :toast:

yeah, you guys have probably seen this movie as many times as my son has seen 'Idiocracy' and 'Shaun of the Dead', which means you should have all of the dialogue memorized by now.

I remember Parcells doing the same. Megget was a football player!

No dancing in the streets. Like you said, we’ve seen this movie before. Just a nice start for the rookie.
