2012 Training Camp Thread

They got in a fight again??? Is this a good or bad thing?

You guys are really starting to piss me off with these reports. What the hells the matter with you? Don't you have something better to say? Frikin riduclous.

We really need another team to hit and talk about...

This Justin Francis kid sounds intriguing. Anyone got anything on him?

He started out very strong as a penetrator, pass rusher and his motor got him involved in a lot of plays. He's tailed off a bit since he left the field with heat related issues. He has plenty of time to show what he can do. Barring a complete collapse, he's almost a lock for the practice squad at the very least.

Justin Francis is competing well

Rookie free agent defensive end Justin Francis continues to show up with a play or two each practice; this time it was knocking left tackle Nate Solder on his back in 1-on-1 drills.

Knocking Weems or Gallery on their back is one thing; success against Solder is impressive. Neither Francis nor Bolden may make it to the PS the way they are impressing.

It looks like that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick does have a HEART underneath that “HOODIE”. Perhaps at the ripe old age of 6o, Bill is LETTING LOOSE.
Looks like Bill Belichick broke out of his ALL BUSINESS ALL THE TIME shell to poke some fun at tight end Aaron Hernandez at the season ticket holder practice. Belichick gave Hernandez a SMOOCH on the elbow after some over-exuberant b*tching and whining.
“I had a little bruise on my elbow and I was whining about it, and he was just showing me the love of a father figure and he gave me a kiss on the elbow”, said Hernandez.
This is BY FAR one of the FUNNIEST things that Bill Belichick has done in his 12 years as head coach of the Patriots.
In this case, a picture does speak a 1,000 <del>words</del> KISSES.

That is disturbing...

During team sub action the front line consisted of Rob Ninkovich at left end, Wilfork and Kyle Love in the middle and Chandler Jones at right end. Jerod Mayo and Dont’a Hightower were the linebackers. Jermaine Cunningham was the first end off the bench, coming in for Ninkovich. Brandon Spikes and Carpenter came in at the linebacker spots.

One interesting early development in camp this far as I see it is that Hightower is playing next to Mayo in the 4-2-5 nickel. We all know the Pats needed to get better coverage from their LBs, maybe Hightower can help with that early, along with occasionally blitzing.

Up to this point, hasn't Carpenter played nickel LB with Mayo? WOW if Hightower can pull this off at 270 lbs. Unreal versatility for a LB bigger than many DEs.

I'm wrong a helluva lot, but I'm feeling pretty smart about my OP from the excited/concerned thread based on TC so far:
Apart from the obvious - I assume we're all excited to see Hightower, whether Gronk will still be Gronk, and if Wes will be somehow affected by the off-the-field stuff.

For me, I think I'm more excited than most here seem to be about Fanene and a healthy Prior and Vareen, and I think I'm the only one who hasn't completely given up on Cunningham (though that's a longshot.)
I'm also jazzed to see how the personnel is used in multiple fronts - could there be a heavy 3-4(ish) front with Chandler Jones in a 2 point stance?

On the other hand, I'm very worried that we'll never again see the 2010 version of McCourty, and that our OL will be a trouble spot bad enough to sink us or even put TFB at risk.

What about y'all?
I have a pro-Cunningham bias because I came out loud for him both before and after the draft - I was down on the other UF DE (Dunlop, I think) and Spikes because both of them disappeared when Cunningham was out (and I didn't think Spikes was fast enough to allow his game to translate to the NFL.)

The Cunningham in these reports is the guy I remember seeing. I'm jazzed - my hope for him was dimming.

Hey, I've been defending Cunningham as well. You are definitely not the only one.

Carpenter has been playing with the 2's pretty much since the pads came on, IIRC.

He's been a one in the Nickel at every session I've attended. They must be mixing things up a bit.

I can't say I've defended him. I can say I've been rooting for him. And I'm really pleased with his progress.
There are, in fact so many GOOD things that seem to happening that I am having a hard time keeping up.

May good things continue.

Cheers, BostonTim

What's going on with Fletcher right now? Have heard exactly nothing about him all camp.

He's been moving around. ILB on the first and second units in Base and Nickel.. He appears to be holding his own.
