Ref Lockout is OVER

I would like to think that it was my Boycott thread that tipped the balance in the negotiations.

As much as we all give Ed Hochiuli the business for his tight shirts I think we all owe him a debt of gratitude. As I understand the scenario, the main reason the Refs can come back immediately is due to the conference call that Ed decided was necessary every week after all of the games were played. During this conference call (usually 90+ of the 121 refs were involved each week), the games/calls were discussed and all refs were kept up to date on all rule changes. When the NFL CBA was settled last year, I'm sure it was very difficult for non-Patriots fans to swallow their pride and thank Mr Kraft for the lead he took with Jeff Saturday to get that settled, especially while he was mourning the passing of his wife. I think, again, we all owe Ed a great deal of thanks for getting the regular refs ready to do games immediately upon an agreement being reached.

Thanks, Ed.

ROFL

NFL referee Ed Hochuli told NFL.com's Jeff Darlington that he's ready to work a game this weekend. The officials expect to ratify the deal Saturday morning, Hochuli said.

"But all 121 guys and I are very glad we're back," Hochuli said. "We are ready. We missed preseason, and there's nothing we can do about missing on-field practice. But we've worked very, very hard over the last several months. We've taken 18 extensive rules tests, watched hours and hours of video every week. We've worked very hard to be prepared. I think we're ready."

When asked how many curls he did when he heard the rumors that a deal might be getting done today, the famously muscular Hochuli said, "As soon as I heard the rumors, I got down on the floor and started doing pushups."

Just in time to plan my menu.
:D

If anyone has plans to be near Roger's office, dont forget the banana peels on the staircases. He's not off my shit list yet.

I dislike Goodell as much as anyone but the owners deserve their fair of criticism for this disater as well. They shouldn't get a free pass.

So now what will we complain about?

The returning regular refs. It's not like they never screwed up calls that changed the outcome of games. Didn't the Steelers win a Super bowl thanks to them? At $175K for a part time job, they better be ready.

Who knows, people may be calling for the replacement refs to come back, if the regular refs screw up this weekend on a nationally televised game.

1 NFL owner has publicly stated the MNF fiasco caused the NFL owners to capitulate to the officials. Reading his statement, the frequent near brawls between the Ravens and Pats also factored heavily. The NFL's position was hardened until the wkend's miscues made the NFL a national laughing stock.

One owner gave CBSSports.com a window into the final 24-48 hours of the negotiations. Contrary to what league officials have said publicly and privately, the owner said the debacle in Seattle figured greatly in the final hours of the negotiations.
"That game reshaped everything," said the owner, who asked not to be identified. "I can't remember the last time our league was a laughingstock nationally. It shook me. I think it shook a lot of people."
"We were prepared to go longer," the owner said. "We couldn't after that."
The owner said one of the main concerns became the replacement officials inability to control the game. There were fears that there would be an all-out brawl between teams.

Can't wait to hear Ed Houchuli explain a replay decision while casually flexing his biceps.
