Some Dunkin Donuts don't know how to make they're own coffee properly. Have you ever notice that? I actually stay away from a particular one that never gives me a good cup of coffee.

Yes, I have. There's a Dunkies on Rt. 1 in Dedham in the old Krispy Kreme plaza that serves old stale coffee. And worse, they NEVER get the coffee order right. :spank:

If I am on a road trip, it's whatever is most convenient.

Not a huge fan of DD, but will go there on occasion.

If I'm traveling and at my destination city, I'll go local if I can find one, just so there's some diversity in the world.

If you're ever in North Conway, the Metropolitan Coffee House is worth a visit.

I was going to ask whomever already had french presses for examples of what they use, but this looks interesting. Would you recommend this over a press?

My cousin actually got me one of these about twenty years ago when he was stationed in Europe, but it's long been lost to history (and I never used it because there were no instructions.....and no Internet, lol).
I have both sizes of the stainless steel Secura french press found on Amazon.com. Got the smaller one first to try it out and loved it. Makes about 2 large mugs (or normal travel mug). Then got the larger one. Makes about 4 of those. If you use more normal size regular coffee cups, you'd get many more. Easy to use, easy to clean, stainless steel helps keep it hot.

Have any of those who like French Press tried the aeropress?

I've never looked back and the FP never makes it out of the cupboard anymore. Aeropress is quicker brew, easier to wash up and gives a cleaner cup of coffee IMHO.

13 or 14 g coffee, 200ml water. Perfect coffee every time.

Give it a try.

I'll do Dunkins when I buy a coffee, I really do like it. But I hate paying 2 or 3 bucks for a cup. Do that every day and it adds up over a year. Maybe once or twice a week, in the winter especially.

Normally I set up my coffeemaker night before, it's ready when I get up.. have a couple cups while I read the news and the Planet and take a cup in the car to the office. I use good old Maxwell House and I like it just fine.

We have Keurig free at the office and they have those Green Mountain K cups. That shit is gross and I won't drink it. I fail to see the attraction with Keurig, it generates so much waste with all those stupid K cups.

Starbucks I don't particularly care for either.

That's kind of what made me hesitant.

Thought there might be a learning curve that caused me to give up on the venture and then be out the investment cost of the press.

Could you detail your methods, and how you like your coffee?

boil water in a teapot till it whistles, you want water around 200 deg+-5(darker roast go to the lower end of this temp range, less chance of burnt bitter flavors)

i don't measure the coffee per say but roughly 2tbs per cup(i like it strong)

grind is a medium size

pour in water stir and put on the press

let steep around 7min or so

press slow and even, pour, add cream/sugar if you must

enjoy and don't drink that very last sip out of the cup it may be a bit muddy

that should give you a starting point adjust from there, temp is the only thing to not really adjust keep it 195-205.

coffee just a good quality brand of the type of roast you like...its so subjective its hard for me to recommend.

but if it is not 100% arabica bean you are wasting your money imho

don't sweat the adjustment time a couple of days will get you tuned right in to what you like...

Anyone here use a Moka pot? It's homemade coffee Italian style.

It's between DD & Cumberland farms most of the time. I do love Starbucks ice coffee .

I not only do a French Press, but the French Press is my travel mug.

Made by Planetary Designs, but I got mine on Amazon for ~$30.

The best part is that it has a container in the bottom for the second set of grounds.

This thing is very well made and they clearly put some design thought into it.

For example, the top has a second screen so you don't drink any grounds that get past the primary screen

They only have Kuregs at work and I use them to just pour the hot water.

I buy my beans at a local roaster who has plenty of "coffee flavored coffee".

Try Frontside Grind (across the street from the Met)

Honestly guys. Coffee is one thing you shouldn't overthink. Just go to DD and stay out of Starbucks, you will do just fine. Every once in while it's OK to get that $1 coffee at McD's if you are driving by one anyway.

Also, piggy is right. Identify the DD that serve shitty burnt coffee and avoid like the plague. I have those one's in my area circled in red and will drive the extra mile to the one that is consistently good.

Also, advice for the minivan driving moms I hear in front of me in the drive through. Stop putting so many creams and sugars in your coffee. It's supposed to taste like coffee. "Xtra Xtra" my ass.

For the most part, I just brew my own at home. Typically buy the organic from the coffee lady at the local Farmer's market. Everyone's different, but honestly Dunkin Donuts is a last resort for me. I prefer Mary Lou's, McDonald's for $1, or Starbucks. Coffee Break Cafe in Quincy is also good. I just don't understand what the attraction is to DD, to be honest.

Given the options, I voted Starbucks. I think their coffee is great, and I don't mind paying a little more for a quality cup and friendly service. I've never had an issue there whereas McDonalds and DD tend to screw up orders

If I want Starbucks I can get it for free. What I do is I dig a hole in the ground fill it up with water take my shovel mix up a pile of mud take my cup scoop it up leaving just a little bit of mud in the cup put Cup in microwave heat for 2 minutes done.

love the Met.

Funny I do not drink coffee but I stop there every time I am in NC, will go 2 or 3 times not this but next weekend. I typically buy a couple bags of fresh ground to bring home for friends.

That's about the best recipe for Starbucks I've seen yet.

I think ppl go there just bc they "think" it's supposed to be good and if it costs a lot it "must" be good. AmIRight?

Isn't that why Blue pet food sells so well? $$$ but Terrible for your pets.
And Taste of the Wild, too. It was formulated by a 17 HS student who didn't want to take her Home Ec final. 100% True.

Sorry to get off track (but not really).

Starbucks is TERRIBLE. Tastes like shit and the company itself is a POS.:shoot:

1. Brew DD coffee at home. Our coffee make has a timer but I never remember to set it up the night before (too much vodka maybe?:grumpy:).

2. DD if I can find it. The franchisee around here ran an awful business and as a result, they have all closed.

3. Tim Horton's. Not bad brew, really fast service and if I am hungry, the food is decent.

Any left over from anywhere goes into the fridge for ice coffee later in the day.
