My draft is tomorrow night. For the first time in years, and it'll be a long night for me, because I have to grind it out to the very last pick, which I own, Round 14, pick # 168. That's with two keepers for 16 man rosters.

I'm super excited, but it;s going to be tough because I have the turns...last pick in the 1st round, 1st pick in the 2nd....then the long wait until the next turn at the end of round 3.

This is year 19 of my league. I have 2 Championships. My record in the SUper Bowl is something like 2-7. I get there a lot, but lose a lot. Too many players not playing in week 17 on my teams over the years. Still, I've made a lot of money, so can't complain.

My keepers this year are Zeke and Melvin Gordon, in a .5 PPR league. I used to have David Johnson, too....but traded him for a 1st and 2nd round pick before the 2017 season :toast:Nutkick:devil:

It's going to be tough going this year with the top 13 running backs not available, as franchise players on teams, and then having to wait another 12 picks on top of that before I can make my first pick.

I hate drafting last, I much prefer being in the middle somewhere. I like to be able to roll with the ebb and flow of the draft. You really can't do that when your on the turns...there are runs on positions that you just miss out on....but sometimes you can begin the runs.

Anyone else have a big fantasy football weekend coming?

What sort of degenerate league has their draft before week 3 of the preseason?

Bring your commissioner here so I can berate them for their failings.

Week 3 is Labor Day weekend. Most folks have better things to do and places to be that weekend.

That's a good point. I guess your commissioner is safe from Jaric. For now, at least. Good luck with the draft bro.

It's tough to get an entire league together for a draft. I used to do the online thing and it would drive me nuts when a fourth of the league would show up to draft. To me it's all about having the guys together in the same room drinking beer and mocking eachother's draft picks. I always aim for as close to the regular season as I can but it all depends on how many can make it. We're drafting this Sunday and as of now 11 of the 12 will be there. The 12th has someone else to fill in and draft for him.

While we're on the subject, I want to put a plug in for the draft software that I have been using for the past 5 or 6 years. https://www.fandraft.com/ It's really awesome. We used to order the draft boards and mess around with the stickers but that's a pain in the ass. You put this program on your laptop and then hook it up to a tv or projector. You can do as many drafts as you want with it. The up front price is a little steep. Maybe $35? But after that it's only $15 a year. I paid more than that for those stupid draft boards that you could only use one time.

Right? Our draft is next Friday.

I'm curious what your thoughts are on the snake draft. We have always done it that way but I always get complaints on it. This year we're going to try the standard draft order and see how that goes.

Also have you thought about ending the regular season early so you're not playing the championship in week 17? I think our regular season ends in week 14 and then we have the playoffs in weeks 15 and 16.

This is our 5th year using the snake draft and we don’t get many complaints. You’re never going to find a system that everybody is happy with, so as commissioner of our league, I held a vote and if somebody really hates the way it’s done, they can find another league :).

Yeah, having a championship in week 17 is a huge fail.

I personally don't like it too much either so I guess that's why I was more open to changing it. Having the standard draft makes it feel more like the actual NFL draft.

I think the snake draft is the most fair and best way to do it.

My thoughts are that people in fantasy football will bitch and complain about pretty much anything, and it's usually the folks that lose year after year. They always think that it's something in the system that makes them lose.....not their own decisions.

We have a lottery for the bottom 4 teams to get the first 4 draft picks each year. There are 5 teams in our league, that you can guarantee 3 of them will be in it next year, any year, every year.

Your first move as commissioner is to make it clear that you are not running a democracy.

By the way, there is a reason why we have the championship week 17, and yes, it does suck sometimes....nobody has suffered from it more than me...I used to have Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison...and they would pretty much sit out December, because they had the division and the first round bye wrapped up by Thanksgiving.

Anyway, we have a 12 team league. We play our division rivals twice...first 3 weeks and last 3 weeks in a 14 weeks schedule, and we play every other team once. So, everyone plays everyone, and division games matter a ton, epsecially the last 3.

We all like that.

But...with a 14 week regular season, you have to have a 2 week playoffs, or a 3 week playoffs with week 17. People in our league want 6 playoff teams instead of just 4, so that requires a 3 week playoff. They want 3 wild card teams instead of 1.

I'm OK either way, because in our league, the Super Bowl gets most of the money...2//3 to the winner, 1/3 to the loser. If you don't get in the Super Bowl, you probably can't pay off your annual fee..you might if you win your division, score the most points, and get a couple of other small payoffs, but generally, you don't get into the black unless you get to the championship.

That's why I don't mind playing week 17. Just getting there nets about $200 profit, win or lose.

I had to go back and look at our schedule because we have a 12 team league too. We actually end the regular season in Week 13 and then the playoffs run Weeks 14, 15, 16.

We used to do the division thing but it would always end up where someone would make the playoffs with a sub 500 record and someone from the other division wouldn't make it even though they had a much better record so we just made it one conference and the top 6 teams make the playoffs. With the 13 week schedule it allows everyone to play everyone once and then you have two rival games.

Gearing up for my draft week. I have drafts on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday this week. I commish two of these leagues and co-chair a third. Two are Keeper Leagues and 3 are varying levels of PPR. I use The Huddle.com to get up to date content and manage my multiple cheat sheets. You can enter the different scoring systems and get customized cheat sheets that i can manipulate into my "value based" system pretty quickly in Excel So the night before each draft takes about an hour of Excel work to prepare. I do read a lot of updates along the way so once i get into the middle rounds I can take a reach or two based on what I've read. The "work" league I run expanded to 14 teams this year and we are going to a "Premier League" table style with one big division so we'll see how that works.

Seriously, with all the bullshit in the league, from Frame-gate to the crazy inconsistent rule changes, Fantasy is the main thing keeping me attached to this league. But with the organizational stuff (You should see my excel workbook that i created) that I enjoy to the water cooler ball busting with my coworkers, I do enjoy Fantasy as much as anything else in the NFL.

Only one of my leagues has a Week 17 Super Bowl, and it's the one I just ride along with, so yeah, Jaric, get after that guy.

Anyway, I have schedules to input and draft board to set up. Hoping this thread can survive with some of the crazy bad beats we are all in store for this upcoming season.

So, as the team drafting last, I had the #1 waiver wire spot, and had to blow it to pick up Melvin Gordon's backup, because I don't what's going on with that dude.

The good news is, I dropped Blake Bortels to do it, so I was getting an addition by subtraction, anyway. :coffee:

Our draft pretty much went off without a hitch last Sunday. I had one person that raised a bit of a stink over the new draft order but he's the same guy that raises a stink over pretty much everything. I was pretty happy with my draft. The league website has me ranked as the #1 team and has me projected to finish 12-1 in the regular season. I know it doesn't mean much but it's still a nice pat on the back and an excuse to talk smack until the season starts.

Without knowing your scoring system, that looks like a mighty good draft to me. My only gripe would be Eric Ebron, but in the 15th round, you can't beat that. Matthews the same story...but I think Matthews has more of a chance to break out and really become a at least a rock solid receiver 3, if not 2. He may not...I can't get a good read on Tennesse. I like them on paper a lot...but I'm not sure if they will live up to their potential..new coaches, new players...who knows.

We have some of the same players....I don't have my draft handy at the moment, but I have Dion Lewis, Larry Fitzgerald, and Rex Burkhead, too. Got them all at a good price, and I think all will exceed their ADP, except maybe Fitzgerald...he's just a reliable and consistent receiver. I got him in what is essentially the last pick in the 3rd round.

I think Dion Lewis and Burkhead will prove to very productive players that exceed their draft positions. Very nice.

Gronk and DJ are given, of course....great players, high price tags.

Stefon Diggs....he'll be awesome, but 2 weeks ago, he was being drafted in like round 6 or 7 on average...he shot up recently to where it is a solid pick, but not a value pick. He'll probably produce right about where you drafted him.

Royce Freeman. I had him targeted, but he, like Diggs, rocketed up the draft boards after game 2 of pre-season. You got him in the 5th round...he went 3rd round in my league. Booker was just named the starter on the team, but nobody knows how the touches will be split, and I expect Freeman will be the starter by the second half of the season...but don't rely on him the first couple of weeks. We all have to see where he stands in playing time.
In the meantime, don't discount any trade offers you get for him. Don't dump him at all....he'll have value...but he's starting at #2, and a lot of owners may still be hot and heavy for him...so you may be able to updgrade...depends on the league.

Chris Thompson. I have a feeling that will end up being the steal of the draft for you. Phenomenal pick at round 10. Awesome.

Just my 2 cent analysis.

All in all, I'd call that an outstanding draft.
