playcalling 101 thread

I can’t remember the line being this bad in the Brady era. Maybe the year Scar left, but even then I’d lean towards this being the worst. I keep hearing Wynn mentioned. He probably should be a guard, is always injured, and has shown absolutely nothing to demonstrate he can be relied upon to save this situation. Hopefully one day he develops into a versatile lineman who can fill in at tackle, but how can you expect anything from him? Notwithstanding his most recent injury, an Achilles tear is a big deal. Most people need two years to feel right, especially bigger guys. Really disappointed in the coaching staff for not having the depth on the oline this year. Really disappointed that Harry pick was used for a WR who will probably take years to get up to speed if he ever does vs bolstering the Oline.

Agree, cuz Wynn looked clumsy at best when he stumbled and injured the Achilles. Red flag when I watched that and now the toe. Hmmm. Please Isaiah get yur shyt together and start blocking people. Reports are that he might come off IR so sweet.. Lets see that.

Ok.. so Felgah and MAZZ have been chatting Belichick the GM and actually did a great job of dissecting every single player acquisition or release and gave belichick his grade in their opinions . And if you look at how he has built this defense you gotta like that.

Then felgy goes " well belichick the coach kinda helps a guy like van noy go from a Detroit cast off into a central stud of your defense... "(Paraphrasing) , then Mazz goes yeah " it seems most of the mistakes are on offense...".

Once again there is no link made between these comments to the logical next take which is " Gee who is coach on offense that DOESN'T help the GM by turning cast offs or Actual Good players into studs or even functional contributors to the OFFENSE... ???? "

HAHA gotta leave it to coolade logic to make the obvious elephant in the room take . So as fans we are left with this sketchy dilemma...

With MCD, you have either a hard working but mediocre OC just doing his job , albeit stumbling and sputtering and spitting out vanilla beans... OR

You have a JAG OC , that is botching this team either by not having ability to communicate well with his players, or simply being out of sync with the demands of the position, while AT THE SAME TIME, cruising along under the shadows and stumbling on the coat tails of this great team. Yikes , that hurts.

Which is it .. and I'm so cyber sorry to be the one to focus on the elephant that is stomping on MCDs head. Somebody's gotta do it..popcorn:poke::blink::thumb:

Am I the only one here who's aware of the :eggplant: in the room???

Cheers

Who was that cat that was always blasting Charlie Weis here even after 3 SB victories? Is the Kool Aid guy the same dude? :)

I stopped reading here. The douchebag and his chihuahua are miserable hacks who rarely ever come up with anything positive to say about the local sports teams. I haven't listened to them in a very long time and I'm not at all interested in their opinion on anything,

They tried to have the depth but two of the vets they picked up decided to retirer rather than work in this system.

That would be a definite NO.:toast:

I liked Charlie Weis as OC... In fact the crappy year 2005 I was posting how the offense looked different after he left.

Really... The post referenced info from the podcast... not that it's an agreement with thier opinions. Pay attention, it helps.

Once again... 10 posts and not a single comment on the OC job, or its strategy, responsibility, performance, or link to any issue with the results of he offense.

Fascinating but does it mean the OC job is actually irrelevant? Then why is it 5 mil on the payroll and What is the purpose if not to affect the results , gee whiz , I hope the boardie boys can comment on that..:thumb:

OK, I'll bite. I think McDaniels does a great job all the way around. Nothing more to discuss,

With you , that is. Haha. But the results will probably speak for themselves. . As they have already..

As people have pointed out numerous times, the results have spoken. The offense is near the top of the league in points scored, time of possession, yards, etc. Yes maybe not running the ball that great yet and maybe missing some chances here and there, but that has more to do with injuries and personal groupings than with play calling. It's been a very typical year for the Pats on offense, kind or like last year. They will get better when some of the bodies get back like Wynn and maybe Harry, Watson and the other new TE should help too as he is supposed to be a good blocker.

I have zero concern about McDaniel's and the play calling. This is the time of year they try things, but certain looks on film, to setup plays for later in the season.

There. Now it's your turn to answer some of our questions. What team do you really care for and what is your engineering background?

My engineering comment was to tie in the fact that my takes are based in logic. As in the OC being responsible for the offense and has the most ability to morph it positively with play design, calling and sequencing, personnel usages etc.

The second part of that is the analytical approach to football . You can go as deep as you want because it is complicated but the plays are scripted for a reason. It is strategy, chess moves , etc. Again it's tricky but logical if you can wrap your brain around it. So the OC should have that ability . So he's making the moves and not being played. Just don't think MCD has it this year.. so far the results are disappointing IMO.

So the critique is with the expectation it can get better. There ... That should answer you. :thumb:

Fair enough. Analytically speaking, here's where we currently rank on offense. Not sure what more you can ask for?
