Nobody thinks of the shallows for feeding. Check this out:

Shark seen eating a seal in shallow water off Cape Cod beach: video

The graphic video shows the water turning bloody

By Peter Aitken | Fox News

Shark eats seal off Cape Cod beach

The two animals tussled in the shallows off Cape Cod Beach, ending with the shark eating the seal.
A viral video captured a great white shark making a meal of a seal near a Massachusetts beach.

The shark was spotted in the shallows near the short of Race Point Beach in Provincetown on Thursday. The video served as a good reminder that while summer is over, sharks continue to hunt well into the autumn months.

“This is another good reminder that white sharks hunt in shallow waters off the Cape and, based on tagging data, we know that October is a peak season month for white shark activity off the Cape,” the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy wrote on Facebook.
In the video, the water turns red as the shark tears into the seal after a brief encounter.

love sharks... one of the coolest things to see underwater... probably only second to manta rays... which are the coolest things in the world

not counting marine mammals because you get big ass fine for pestering them...

Only time I've seen a shark was the beach down back in the neighborhood by I guess now it's a Marshlands? Used to be a Sonnys(sp) in Manomet(again spelling...idk) Used to go every summer to my grandma's. Hit a preseason game...a couple practices. I actually got to go the last Brady vs Manning(with the colts) game. Where Manning threw the game losing INT I think it was James Sanders? Could be wrong. Standing room. Was pretty awesome.

I’ve never seen a white shark while diving. That said, we were scuba diving off the coast of Cozumel 10-12 years ago when one of my diving buddy’s eyes opened really wide looking at me and when I turned around there was a barracuda about 15 feet behind me at our depth. I’m amazed I didn’t shit myself.

I know I would if I turned around and saw a great white.

got surrounded by grey reef, black tips and white tips diving the blue corner in Palau ... it was intense, after i lost track of how many there were, 12+, i got a bit spooked... deflated the bc a bit, unhooked from the reef, and floated away with the current for a bit lol

Deflated? I would have deflated my lungs And inflated my BC a bit. And a bit again. And again.

hrmm ... the blue corner has some strong currents ... the reef hook allows you to tie into the reef, without damaging it, so you can float in the current and remain in one spot...

While diving off Guana Island , BVI, , '97 IIRC same thing. Foe a while I had this uneasy feeling and when I turned around there was a barracuda just hanging ten feet back off my left shoulder. Simultaneously cool and creepy.

Cheers

We were diving for lobsters off of Scituate when a GWS swam right by the boat as we were about to get in the water. I'm a rescue diver and very confident under water, but I was scared AF that dive. I went through my tank pretty quickly.

you guys still diving?

How long you been diving? still active? cert org? level of certification?

Damn lucky to get out of there. All those species are known to attack humans but those oceanic white tips can get especially nasty.

I go to White Horse beach in Manomet. Seals there ALL the time. Large rock outcropping they love out on the cliff point. In the late afternoon they will swim the areas closer to the beach. I’m out. I’m a waist guy, dive under, u turn, back to the beach. If I’m still warm I’ll stand waist - mid thigh depth facing out. You can’t defend against that even if you’re ready, nevermind if the first bite takes your ass.

That's crazy how close to shore it came

Race Point where this video was shot is subject to very strong coastal currents

the bottom drops off precipitously between 10-15 ft from high water line

much of the Outer Cape oceanside beaches from Wellfleet North to P-Town have bottom drops close to land

a friend recounts standing thigh deep about 5 ft from land at Race Point and having a shark pass him 5 more ft out swimming parallel to the beach 😱:p

Yeah, went to Nauset Beach with my son and his buddy from hockey couple years back. All kinds of commotion. Then you see a clearly impaired seal in the water. Lifeguards, whistles, crowd forming. That made everyone clear an area of 100’ or so and the poor thing came out of the water up onto the beach, still in the trickles of the waves. Good size chunk of his hind quarters was no longer there.

That beach has a pretty quick dropoff as well. At least mine you have to wade out 50’ to get to your waist. I’m ok wit dat!
