Nostalgic Music Thread

Imagine if, as rumored, Becker and Fagen allowed their immense ego's to get in the way of allowing Purdie to pocket shuffle on that album? Thankfully, Purdie was able to "hide" that groove as only he can.
Their best album, although Pretzel Logic is a close 2 for me. I've heard some great SD stories from a guy who was there. Jeff Skunk Baxter is a friend of my brother in law, and I've met him on several occasions. He didn't play on Aja however. He has a lot of tales, suffice to say Becker and Fagen are two hugely talented guys. Or at least Fagen is, Becker is sadly gone. Baxter is a real smart dude himself.

I probably have The Royal Scam sitting atop these days. At least, if my playlist is any indication. Love the guitar work on it.

Baxter would be a very interesting fella to chat with.

There's a lot of Larry Carlton on guitar on that album.

He's evolved into a sought after consultant with the department of defense. It's quite a story. Some details on that on google search. That is how my BIL knows him. My conversations with him were mostly about terrorism, but the music stuff got in there. I was trying not to be an awe-struck fan boy. He still plays gigs and does session work.

Yeah, heard about that side of his life. Apparently they felt his creatve mindset and quick study capability could be a valuable DOD asset.

Song: Rock Me On The Water
Artist: Linda Ronstadt

As she so often does, Linda takes a song written by someone else (Jackson Browne) and gives a definitive performance.

It was very obvious to most who dropped the needle onto track 1, side 1 of this brilliant album, that these guys were destined for greatness. Unbelievable writing by Kath on this iconic number; my fav Chicago tune, alongside 25 or 6 to 4.

And Danny Seraphine is one of my all-time favorite drummers. He just kills it on "I'm A Man" and "Beginnings".

Listened to their version of "Beginnings" because I wanted to hear how their trumpeter handled his part.

He was pretty damn good. Thanks for the link. :thumb:
That entire band is top notch, especially the drummer and lead guitarist. And the leader, Leonid, is brilliant piecing it all together. The young lady is also very easy on the eyes. :)

Sometimes when you hear a song for the first time, you just are mesmerized. Well, this is one of just a few songs that did it for me, in a jaw dropping sense. 50 years after the fact, this song still gives me goosebumps when I listen to it at full concert level on my big rig.

Everything is near perfect in my eyes. From the lyrics to Taupin's guitar work to start through to the masterful arrangement of the strings (kudo's to Paul Buckmaster who really allowed EJ's early albums to shine on this front)
