The Hats off to Tom Brady thread

I loved Gordie. Saw him numerous times in the old Garden back in the day. He was so Badass. But imo, you just can't mention him in the same sentence with Tom.

Cheers
I did, so I guess you can....

My apologies Steve, sorry, of course you can and did. Just meant I wouldn't personally put them on the same level.

Cheers
It's nice to disagree a little bit about something, and not get mad about it. Thanks!

Here's another article on Brady; this one compares the GOATs in the four major North American sports.

What I found interesting, and what the author apparently didn't notice, is that there's only one football player in his top 10 GOATs list (OK, it's only 9, but it looks like a top-10 list).

All the other sports have multiple candidates for GOAT. Being the undisputed GOAT in a sport raises the profile for a player, IMHO. If you're not the undisputed GOAT in your sport, you can't be #1 on the multi-sport GOAT list.

This piece surprised me - it was authored by a Pittsburgh writer and written for consumption by his Steelers-fan audience.

My top 2 would be Russell and Brady. The simplest explanation is that the gap between them and #2 in their sports is enormous. I would also give the top spot to Brady because it is harder to win and have longevity in football than basketball.

This article has to feel like having acid poured into your eyes if you are a Steelers fan.

It's too hard to compare in sports. I mean Jack Niklaus won 18 majors, an insane amount but how could you compare him to a football player or boxer or soccer player or driver etc. The word "Sports" cover far too wide amount of sports that are completely different from each other. How can you compare Brady to Muhammad Ali or Mayweather or Jordan or Pele or Maradona or Usain Bolt or Nicklaus or Federer or Borg, Senna, Hamilton, Woods, Fangio, Klammer, Gretsky etc etc. It's too difficult.

Especially considering if Welker caught that pass or A$$ante grabbed that int. Brady would have at least one more ring. Individual sports should not be part of the Brady conversation.

BTW, the NBA folks could not be more disingenuous. Whenever they talk about the GOAT in basketball almost all of them name Jordan. Some are even starting to name Lebron. No one mentions Russell given the era he played in.
But because Brady has surpassed Jordan in titles now all of a sudden they want to talk about Russell. Bunch of hypocrites.

NBA? You didn't notice when Brady passed Montana you suddenly saw Bart Starr's name getting dusted off, and the NFL Championships leaderboard on Wikipedia suddenly switch its sorting for ties between winning X number of championships to "Chronologically, oldest to newest" so Brady was not on top? And now that he's at 7, you're seeing Otto Graham's name get dusted off, even though Otto only had 3 NFL Championships and got his other 4 from a now-defunct league wherein his team was the only good one?

On the one hand, it's natural that you seek things to compare current events to, in order to grant perspective and provide historical insights. On the other hand, the more Brady wins, the further afield they have to look, and the greater the stretch which is made. Add that to the fact that so many hate Brady with a fiery passion and will do, say, and believe virtually anything in order to rationalize that hatred, and it's to be expected.

I know. It is a joke. The modern era has no comparison to the pre-SB/pre-merger era. Brady is playing in the toughest era of any sport to win consistently with different teams in the toughest sport. His longevity alone sets him apart by miles. I still can't believe he caught Otto in terms of titles. It is such a ridiculous number of SBs.

BTW, you are doing a great job on Chiefsplanet. I have been reading your posts on the SB threads and you are really giving it to them good and also managing to stay away from the filth. I have never seen a more volatile fan base anywhere. The stuff they post should be banned for its horrific and often violent nature but I guess their Mods like that type of stuff. It's a shame as they do have some fine posters but it gets loss with all the filth.
