The Hats off to Tom Brady thread

it's surprising tb would put up with him running wrong routes.

Yes, that is curious.

It's also a head scratcher that he agreed to buy a portrait of himself at a Charity auction for 700 bucks and scammed the artist to do a mural in his house before sexually harassing/assaulting her while she was trying her best to be professional. As if that wasn't bad (and pathetic) enough, he never paid for the portrait meaning he ripped off a kids charity that he was supposedly supporting.

While criticizing Tom is an unpopular thing to do, especially now that he has achieved the Alpha state/human perfection and kicked Father Time in the wedding tackle in the process, I have sometimes wondered exactly how and why he thought it was a solid idea to get him down to Tampa knowing this story and about a gazillion others and having a year to think about it.

Mid? You want to take a shot at this one? Mazz?

Calling all Tommyites. I'd love to hear how you spin this one.

You're talking about AB doing the portrait thing, right?

I hardly think that's a surprise, look at the way Brady defended Alex G. Despite allegations of fraud, this that, the other, he brings the guy in, demands he be part of the team, and has him as a partner in a business which has to be worth at minimum tens of millions. When asked about it, he basically says "look you all don't know what you're talking about, I actually know the guy, all that garbage people say just isn't true", taking the word of his buddy over just about everyone else.

What about Trump? He said 'Look he's a cool guy, I've had cool experiences with him, he's a good friend, the rest of it, not my wheelhouse'. I'm pretty sure there are other examples as well though none spring to mind atm. In short, it seems he will always take the word of the person he knows, his buddy, over the word of the world at large. Basically, I expect AB told him those stories were garbage, they don't know the real him, Brady's seen him day to day and knows the real him, whatever. And Brady will go with that seemingly 10 times out of 10.

Really, given that he brought Alex G and TB12 down with him to Tampa, could anyone have expected anything else? Think his judgement is flawed, that he's easily deceived, that he surrounds himself with terrible influences. Think he just wants to win, and is a proven cheater who readily accepts the worst of humanity along with him in those that defraud others or abuse others if it'll give him an edge in winning the game. Think whatever you want, at the end of the day we don't know him at all, just the projection put forth to the public. But at the very least, he appears to be ideologically consistent. I'll choose the most charitable interpretation of the facts I can and go with he believes those he knows, and everyone else buying what the media puts forth be damned. After all, it's not like he doesn't understand what it's like for the media to assume the worst about someone and put forth all the "facts" over their wrongdoing and alleged sins. Just saying.

Btw how was that, pretty good spin? :coffee:

nicely done, GO! 👏
but...even if he loves ted bundy, if ted runs the wrong routes, he'd cuttabitch...😄

Great spin. I think you must have had training in debating. Damn good at it.

Are we talking about AB's TD catch? That route has been a staple in the Pats' O since the Welker days. Who said it was the wrong route?

no route specifically. just from that article about how tb rehabbed ab, it said ab would run wrong routes sometimes.

There was an article today on cbssports.com that cited a formula used on profootballreference.com to calculate the best QB.

The formula uses both raw statistics and awards such as AllPro, MVP, and Pro-Bowls.

I think a better approach is to not use popularity contests and just use regular season and post-season performances.

I came up with a spreadsheet, and assigned various weights, with higher rewards and penalties for post-season successes and failures.

Once I had the spreadsheet, I could just tune the weights to give me the desired outcome. I wanted Montana and Bart Starr to finish ahead of stat compilers like Brees and Favre, so I just kept adjusting my weights until I got the results below.

Profootballreference.com has their own weights and biases, and I have mine.

He didn't run the wrong route. If you read King's piece from Monday, both Brown and Brady realized the DB was playing outside leverage so Brown faked the run to the post and turned back inside and Brady hit him with the perfect pass off of his cut. They seem to have that type of connection that Brady had with Moss. As soon as they step on the field together they see the play the same.

Brady answered this several times during the season when AB was brought on. He said that at this point in his life what drives him is investing in other people both on and off the field given all he has learned over his 20 year playing career. He also mentioned that he grew up in a very stable home environment and realized that many guys in the league do not have that advantage going for them so he tries to help them in any way he can.

There are reports that he picked AB up at the airport and AB stayed at his home for a couple of weeks when he first arrived in Tampa. I would imagine for AB, having someone like Tom, an older male figure, believe in him after all his screw-ups really meant a ton of him. I have never heard a player utter the words "grateful" and "thankful" more than AB did this year. Here is his Instagram post from this past Sunday (notice the shout out to Tom). It truly was/is a great redemption story for the 2020 season.

Great interview from Shady McCoy on how Brady transformed the Bucs. Some good nuggets in here about how Brady prepped the team before the Super Bowl. The full interview which he did on the Pat McAfee show is within the story link at the bottom.

Tom Brady was ‘like the Terminator’ behind the scenes on Buccaneers Super Bowl run, per LeSean McCoy

Updated Feb 17, 2021; Posted Feb 17, 2021

By Chris Mason | cmason@masslive.com

As the Buccaneers transformed from a 7-9 team to Super Bowl champions, everyone from Bruce Arians to Tom Brady’s teammates credited the intangibles the quarterback brought to the table.

Nobody has been able explain them quite like LeSean McCoy though.

The 32-year-old running back signed with Tampa Bay in August because he wanted another shot at a Super Bowl ring. In his 12th NFL season, he’d never seen a teammate like Brady before.

“He’s the only player that I’ve ever been around that, when he speaks, when he talks, I believe him,” McCoy said on The Pat McAfee Show. “He could tell me, ‘Shady, go walk on that water. You won’t drown.’ I’m going to be like, ‘OK.’ He has that type of thing about him. And the way he works. When I was younger, I wish I worked as hard as he does. We just won a Super Bowl and he’s back training, doing little things.”

As the Buccaneers began their Cinderella run to Super Bowl LV, Brady took things to another level.

“We have about eight, nine, maybe ten players in a group chat. All the skill guys,” McCoy explained. “All the guys that were active to play. And he’s going into details about every player we’re going against. He’s like, a voice over. It’s a video playing and it’s only him. He’s got the candles lit. He’s like, ‘This DB, he likes to press. He likes to hold. He doesn’t have good speed.’ With everybody. I’m like, this guy is so dialed in. He’s 43! He’s dialed in. He can play another five years. Just because, not only just the talent or the big arm and all that. It’s just like, he gets it. He gets it.”

McCoy wasn’t surprised to see the Patriots fall to 7-9 in 2020. During his tenure with the Bills, he believed Brady was the key to New England’s success.

“Real talk, I played in Buffalo and I would play this dude every year, twice a year. I’d say, ‘When Brady leaves, the Patriots, they will not be as good.’ Everybody talks about this (Bill) Belichick — and I respect Belichick, he’s a great coach — but c’mon, let’s stop that,” McCoy said. “When (Brady) leaves that team, they will not be the same. The guy is different. You feed off of him. His energy.

“The regular season, he was so serious. And then the playoffs, it was like the Terminator. He was even more serious. And then the championship week he was even more serious. Like, even the coaches have to be on their A-game because the dude demands so much respect. When he’s there, it’s like the championship habits pick up. The championship DNA picks up. And I think when you have a guy like that, you have a chance to win. And I love Belichick, but they’re not the same team without (No.) 12 over there.”

Yawn.....yet more digs at Bill Belichick. It's getting tiresome at this point reading these "reports".

I have to give you credit. You can provide a plausible enough reply to practically any question, but can't help but slip in a few dubious supporting details that make
me wonder if even you believe it.

In this one, I think you slipped up with " I would imagine for AB, having someone like Tom, an older male figure, believe in him after all his screw-ups really meant a ton of him."

At the risk of overstating the obvious, Antonio Brown is a grown-ass man of 32. He's a celebrity super star and a multi-millionaire. He isn't a sad-eyed street urchin acting out because he
is desperate for a father figure. I think we all have a pretty good idea what he's about.

Yes, technically, Brady is about 10 years older than he is, but if Brown hasn't figured out how to behave like a responsible adult by now then I seriously doubt even
Tom Brady -- the New Master of Space, Time and Infinity --can help him out. Brown is using Brady to prolong his career and keep the gravy train rolling and nobody should waste their time listening to his bogus contrition.

"Redemption story". ROFL. I'd love to see the look on the faces on his victims as they read how he's a changed man for about the 40th time. I doubt they'd get overly misty-eyed.

I hope he saved that tweet to save him the trouble of typing it out again.

How is that the main thing you took away from it?
Oh come on. All the articles are pedalling the same schtick.

Everybody talks about this (Bill) Belichick — and I respect Belichick, he’s a great coach — but c’mon, let’s stop that,” McCoy said. “When (Brady) leaves that team, they will not be the same. The guy is different.
