Tom Brady/Tampa Off-season thread

There was a beat guy for the Bucs that said they were targeting White so there was some interest but I don't know if there was ever an offer. But overall I think you are right, they are trying to keep their own guys together for obvious reasons.

The Bucs were the losingest franchise in NFL history going back to 1976. I think now that they got the taste of winning AND having a franchise QB like Brady for at least 2 more years, they are doing everything to keep the team together to make another run. It is pretty cool to see as we used to lose so many players and coaches after winning the Super Bowl. Most teams do. But the Bucs have done a lot of smart, creative deals and restructuring to keep their guys and of course Brady restructuring opening up so much cap. The bill will come due eventually but I don't think they care. Just hit while they can with Brady.

So once again.

You celebrate the Bucs for re-signing their own players .
And play down the Patriots doing the same thing.

People have made it clear in their posts. Cheering on Brady is #1 . Patriots are #2 . So I know who they will be cheering on when TB comes to NE.

To Praise the Buccs who did a great Job resigning their player. At same time To trash BB & be negative about Pats doing the same. Just speaks of how pissed off & butt hurt . People are that Brady didn't stay with the Pats :coffee:

I'll ask the question most of us are thinking.

Why is a thread that celebrates the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a Patriots' "Six Rings Circus" forum in the first place?

It doesn't belong here.

Maybe UT can find a place to put it so we Patriots' fans don't have to see it every time we log on.

Because Brady will always be a Patriot and there was obviously a desire to discuss him and the Bucs. I think it is probably better to have this thread to try and contain it from bleeding too much into other threads.

But I could be wrong and there is a better solution, I don't know.

It is a football discussion and I'm certainly not going to prohibit that. With the thread, you know what it is and don't need to read it.

My opinion, but I'm always open to others.

I disagree. He was a Patriot and is tied to the history of our team and out past glories. But, it is in the past. Just like any other player who wore the Patriots jersey and no longer does.

He is no longer a Patriot. Its understandable why some get bent out of shape over the continuous Brady Brady Brady chatter

Unless you are going to make a Brady sub forum, this is the best course of action imo.

I think having this separate thread works well. It does keep discussion of Brady from the other threads which is a good thing. And like you said, folks can just skip the thread if they don't want to read anything pertaining to him anymore.

As an FYI, over on Patsfans they have one main thread like we do to discuss Brady/Bucs. It met some resistance at the start and now it is fine. Only the folks that want to discuss it are there and everyone else just skips it.

I appreciate your thought that this thread is here to stop Bucs/Brady celebrations in other threads, and maybe it has helped to some degree, yet I still see post after post from a few people that are predictably anti-Pats/anti-BB and pro-Brady/Bucs on other threads. It could work better.

Brady can barely bring himself to talk about "the other team I was with". I'm skeptical that 'always a Patriot' fits very well in his mind. He's gone off to bigger and better things and from all accounts he's loving life as a Buccaneer player and GM. He's moved on. I have, too. I don't need or want to be reminded every single day what a mistake it was for BB to let him leave when, from what I saw and read, it was obvious that TB12 wanted to leave. The idea of praising all things Brady/Bucs on a Patriots forum doesn't sit well with me, especially when the praisers are also the ones most critical of all things Patriots and the GOAT coach.

Just my .02

BTW, I only read this thread when someone other than Mazz or middy have a post.
The sentiments I just quoted from PF09 and KOK are bothersome to me just as they are to them.
My guess is that many people here find it bothersome and unnecessary.

At the risk of further muddying the discussion, let me dip my oar into the water.

I don't think we have a binary situation here - sure, there are two main groups:
  • pro-Patriots, don't care about Brady/Bucs
  • pro-Brady, anti-BB
But there are other folks here too. I am in the pro-Patriots, pro-Brady/Gronk cult. We have strange rituals and chants, and a preternatural obsession with statistics. We've been described as pliable curmudgeons.

There are probably some other deviants on here in some other weird groupings as well.
