Got plenty from over the years but I'll start with "Free Bird" from "One More From The Road." They just so perfectly captured the spirit of the song.

I was in a youth detention center when I was 16 when I discovered this album and it and Pink Floyd's live double album "Delicate Sound Of Thunder" kept me going.

Music moves the soul in a way that is almost pre-cognitive.

Could a mod please move this thread to the Circus? I screwed up and posted it here.

Thank you. :}

25 minutes of brilliance pre Dark Side of The Moon. You can totally hear their growth as a band over the years.

Roger Waters was the brains initially after Syd was gone but David Gilmour is the heart and Rick Wrick is most definitely Pink Floyd's soul. Without him, the music would have so much less depth, richness, and intensity.

Rest in peace, Rick.

Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves
The echo of a distant time comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine

And no one showed us to the land
And no one knows the wheres or whys
But something stirs and something tries
And starts to climb towards the light

Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you
And what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can?

And no one calls us to move on
And no one forces down our eyes
No one speaks and no one tries
No one flies around the sun

Cloudless every day you fall
Upon my waking eyes
Inviting and inciting me to rise
And through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning

And no one sings me lullabies
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky

Before Frampton went solo, he was in Humble Pie. I wouldn't call Performance one of the greatest live albums, but this song is a lot of fun:

Iron Maiden's Live After Death album was my "gateway album" into all things Metal.

The Phantom of the Opera version on it is my favourite one.

There's also a great intro to Rime of the Ancient Mariner: "and the moral of this story is what not to do if your bird shits on you". It's a brilliant line, because "bird" is British slang for "woman".

When I was in college, songs from these two live albums were played almost every day:
  • Welcome Back My Friends To The Show That Never Ends, Ladies and Gentlemen ~ Emerson Lake and Palmer
  • Yessongs ~ Yes

Loved, still miss ELP

Cheers
