It's Better to Be Feared: The New England Patriots Dynasty and the Pursuit of Greatness

Over two unbelievable decades, the New England Patriots were not only the NFL’s most dominant team, but also—and by far—the most secretive. How did they achieve and sustain greatness—and what were the costs?
In It's Better to Be Feared, Seth Wickersham, one of the country’s finest long form and investigative sportswriters, tells the full, behind-the-scenes story of the Patriots, capturing the brilliance, ambition, and vanity that powered and ultimately unraveled them. Based on hundreds of interviews conducted since 2001, Wickersham’s chronicle is packed with revelations, taking us deep into Bill Belichick’s tactical ingenuity and Tom Brady’s unique mentality while also reporting on their divergent paths in 2020, including Brady’s run to the Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Raucous, unvarnished, and definitive...

Publishing date is Oct. 12. I'd rather get it first hand than read media takes so I've ordered it and I'll give a report.

You know how you can tell the difference between a Patriots & Brady Era fan. One just wants to talk about the team. The other makes almost everything about the player. Keep going after the person they deem responsible for him leaving. Just look at their posts as proof.

I can speak for myself only, but I thought Wickersham was full of BS when the stories first came out about issues between BB and Brady over Jimmy G. I couldn't believe it could be true. I was obviously wrong, there was an issue clearly. What the actual truth is still debated and contested. Looking forward to this book.

My thoughts precisely, man.

FYI - This is how threads get off track.

I can't stand Seth Wickersham, but I feel compelled to read every book written on the Pats and glean whatever I can from each perspective and
try to get a better handle on everything.

Maybe I can steal a copy so Wickersham doesn't make any royalties off me.
Same.

That's why I choose this thread. To keep it off the Current Patriots thread. You want BB to fail. That's why you keep going negative. Almost all of BB Moves. So you can say Brady was responsible for all the success. My patience has run out on that BS.

Don't care for SW. Will read it because it looks well conceived and documented (on its face). I read Brady books when they strike me as worthwhile. Been wrong some. There are 9929 Brady books so far. 50-100 more each day.. Everyone wants a piece of the pie from the crazy Brady worship. Must absurdly worthless. PS: Don't recommend stealing. But they still make Libraries.

Cheers, BostonTim

I'll wait until it's available at the public library. They usually get new books quickly. Then I can return it and not give the author any royalty bucks.
I am a huge fan of the library for this reason and also for my budget and space in my house. I am an avid reader so the library is my sanctuary outside of church. LOL. The worst part of the Pandemic for me was when the libraries closed. :(

I like audiobooks because I can listen while I'm doing stuff in my workshop and I've found a ton of them free on
Youtube. You won't get new releases, but I was really surprised at some of the titles you can find.

Wait Wut? We've been unraveled? When did that happen? Was that back in 2014? Or when? We've been pronounced dead so many times that I can't keep track. Even cats are envious of the Patriots ability to land on their feet..
