They were never fans of the team. I tried explaining the difference between a player & Teams fan. They cheered for that team because of their favorite player.

Ol' Bill is criticised plenty on the main forum, for FA choices, drafting, in game decisions etc. The difference is, Bill is still with the Patriots. Brady isn't, so an ex player should not be clogging up the main forum which is focusing on the Patriots. Tommy is well gone at this stage. It's a good idea to have an ex player who has people who want to talk about him in a separate forum.
 
Criticism of Bill does not equal pro Brady. It would be good if people could keep this in mind. My feelings toward Bill go all the way back to 2015 when he blew home field advantage for us that year. I believe he has been a pretty awful GM for at least the last 6/7 years and none of that has anything to do with Brady. I am entitled to that viewpoint as much as others as entitled to be ultimate fanboys/cheerleaders.

Nobody said it does? Well certainly I never said this. Feel free to stick the boot into Bill all you want, bring up going for it on 4th downs, the Butler benching, getting Mohammed Sanu in FA or Haynesworth or whoever, hell bring up his dress sense, but if it's Tom related, you can fill your boots in the Brady forum. All good.

So what? I can tell you this. Kraft LOVES those fans. They helped make him one of the most lucrative owners in the NFL and valued the Patriots only second to the Cowboys. That is what a player like Brady does. He brings in fans that otherwise would never follow the team. Everyone loves a winner and even more so, people love to watch greatness.

It is not a matter of said. Is is that the response to Bill criticism, and this is not just exclusive to me, is met with pro Brady rhetoric when that is not what is intended at all.

I followed them when Hugh Millen and Tommy Hodson were the QB's and still do. Again it's all about the laundry.

Sorry, in my world you don't become a fan of a team and if a certain player leaves you stop being a fan. If you do then you were only a fan of that player or you were a fair weather fan.
I was a Patriots fan long before 2001and spent many years suffering.
Hell, even the Jets have real fans. They are deranged but they are real fans. Why would they choose to suffer and live in humiliation if they weren't true fans.

We should probably start a thread on how fandom has changed. I think young folks these days are much more a fan of players than teams. It is probably a result of fantasy football and also the way the stars are marketed. It seems every star athlete has his or her own brand that is separate from the team they play on and that creates a whole different perception as before SM players were always a facet of the team/city they played for. That is not the case anymore.

Been playing FF for a decade plus. As have many of my friends and students.

Not one has changed their allegiance because of FF. Not one among hundreds.

Most of us true Patriots fans knew that there were a percentage of bandwagon "fans". I'm glad those people are for the most part gone.
I know a good many young Patriots fans. They, like most others are not bandwagon fans.
I was happy for Brady and Gronk last year, mostly because they beat the Chiefs. But game 4 this year, I hope that both suffer humiliating defeats. I'm sure all real Patriots fans feel the same way.

Well, they were 20 year "bandwagon" fans which really is the not definition of a bandwagon fan. LOL

I think you will be surprised at how many true Pats fans are supporting Brady/Gronk on October 3.

When you stop following a team because a player left or the team is performing poorly that is the definition of a bandwagon fan.

I have a Peyton fan friend and former member here completely honest that he was an Indy fan solely because he loved Peyton. That kind of honesty is refreshing. He just moved on and didn't start blasting every move the Colts made cuz he was butthurt about how they handled Peyton. He just moved on.

Seems a pretty open, honest, and rational approach. I respect that.
