CB Shaun Wade?

Is this leverage against a certain other unnamed CB on the Patriots?

OR.....is a certain other unnamed CB going to the Ravens?

This may have something to do with Gilmore's rehab being slower than expected, his contract or Jon Jones getting injured today.

If he's a high ceiling player, why would the Ravens want to part ways with him after just drafting him? 🤔
That and trade him to the Pats of all teams.

Apparently he's had an impressive preseason though.

I've read he's mostly a slot cover guy. Having him may allow JCJackson to play outside or maybe he's just for depth.

Regardless, JJones' injury is something to watch.

Why are the Ravens trading him? I mean, depending on the comp (obviously) this is AWESOME news. Pre-Covid this kid was considered in the top 10 OVERALL prospects for the 2021 draft. I don't think he's suddenly any less talented, but he had a bad year bumping outside from the position where he was a stud - slot corner.

To the extent that this says anything bad about Jones' injury or Gilmore's contract or rehab, yikes. But he's an undoubtedly huge talent, and we'd be getting him on the cheap in dollar terms at least. Not sure what the comp looks like, of course.

And to be clear, "bad year" is a relative term. He was still an all-American last year. But DeVonta Smith made him look pretty silly at times (DeVonta Smith does that sort of thing) and he got caught by a momentum trap as a draft "faller." IMO him falling to the 5th was much more a case of negative draft stock momentum than anything else. He had a bad game on a really big stage.

On one Ravens forum, a poster indicated hearing murmurs he hasn't had the best attitude, possibly due to being buried on the Ravens depth chart. And that could also be part of it if he's on the bubble to make the roster. Maybe just a numbers game where you move a player for an asset rather than cutting someone, similar to the Michel trade.

We won't be confusing him with Gilmore anytime soon. I won't be happy if we're forced to play him as man cover guy on the outside.

High ceiling is right, though. Was just looking back - going into last year he was #7 on Kiper's big board. He was a first team all-american, and defensive back of the year for the Big 10.

That said, I saw some draft sites saying he projected to safety in the NFL, which is interesting. He ran a 4.43 40, and his play speed seems fine. Can his hips be that bad, considering the success he had at slot corner? Other notes I saw was that he was a strong/plus defender against the run and showed good ball skills. So far in preseason he's played 25 passing snaps, allowed no receptions, and he picked off the pass the only time he was targeted.

I hope we don't need to play him immediately, for sure. But it seems like it's upside talent on the cheap.

I hope this is not an indication that Gilmore is not going to play.
