Looking at the Patriots - 2021

I’ve trying to say quiet for awhile. I love reading this forum everyday and I don’t like pissing people off. However, I feel very strongly that BB is flat out washed as a coach and awful as a GM. I get called a troll for expressing this opinion.
Many of y’all who disagree with mazz are on record expecting an 11 or 12 win season. I’m taking names.
He’s gonna ruin Mack and never finish better than .500 without Brady, and I promise everyone on this board I will be here to say I told you so when January rolls around.
I can’t wait for him to retire.

It is Mac not Mack.

It is weird to me that you are so nuts about BB and seemingly sane on other topics.

@Undertaker #59* can you please confirm Riv and Mazz have different IP's?

TBH, I don't think you are trolling. I think this is just you.

IDK. She used to be a great member here. Not at all like this current poking and prodding of people looking for a reaction. She left about the time mods weren't letting us push back against that Denver moron, Yakkitysax.

This is such a different person that I sometimes wonder if she never came back at all and someone just guessed her old login details. The Old Mazz22 would never post memes mocking people. And her anti-BB bias was finally exposed to me when post-draft she trashed BB for drafting Mac Jones. Didn't care about Jones, just a means to (ridiculously) attack BB.

Why? Don't know, don't care. I just know the forum is a better place when her posts aren't visible.

Mac did okay for himself handling NFL speed pass rushers and defensive backs. He definitely wasn't the reason we lost, and except for Tampa Bay, I don't think we'll see another defense as disruptive as Miami's was.

And I also don't think BB will ruin him by starting him as a rookie. BB is smarter than you think. Almost all QBs, Brady included, do better sitting for a year. Mac is good, though. I really think he can handle it. And Peyton Manning started as a rookie. He went 3-13 as a rook, but the next year he went 13-3 and never looked back. I think Mac will win more than 3 games. In fact you can put me down as one of your 11-12 win guys as long as you put yourself down as a no-more-than-8-wins guy and promise to be here in January to crow or eat crow. I'll be here.

ps Did you read what Adrian Phillips said about how BB's coaching making him a better player after all his previous time in the NFL?

Trust me. It's only this board that worships at the feet of Bill. You call him nuts on Bill yet the blind loyalty and irrationally is mind numbing here. Bill lost his fast ball a long time ago which was covered by Brady. With Brady gone all the warts have come to the surface and it's ugly just like it was before Brady.

You're good for a seemingly reasonable post here or there, but never will shake your pernicious, anti-Belichick agenda that seeps into nearly every post you write.

Seriously, read what you wrote and tell me if any of that is reasonable or accurate.

"Bill lost his fast ball a long time ago"
"all the warts have come to the surface"
"it's ugly"

This is the coach and general manager who, during the period from 2001 to 2018, led the New England Patriots to 16 AFC East Championships, 12 AFC Championship game appearances and 9 AFC Championship game victories, 9 Super Bowl appearances and 6 Super Bowl victories.

TO BE EXTREMELY CLEAR: Over an 18 year span, the New England Patriots appeared in 9 Super Bowls and won 6 of them. In other words, they appeared in 50% of the Super Bowls played in the NFL from 2001 to 2018, and won 33% of them.

To look at what this team has done over the past 18 years, and either explicitly or implicitly remove credit from Belichick for his role in that stretch of success, and suggest that Tom Brady is sole and exclusive reason the team was successful over the past two decades, is absolutely ridiculous.

It's not an agenda. It is how I really feel and have felt for quite some time going back probably to 2015 when he blew home field advantage to the Broncos and tried to say that where the AFCCG game is played didn't matter which was and still is ridiculous.

Until Bill does something of note like being .500 without Brady, I will not give him the lionshare of the credit for the 2 decade run.

Bill with Brady, 249-75, missed the playoffs once in 19 seasons.

Bill without Brady, 63-74, made the playoffs once in 8 seasons.

BTW, since Brady literally left NE, Bill is 7-10 and has won one game (Jete) since the team was 6-6 last year (1-4).

A coach is only as good as his players, a superior coach will get more out of his players than an inferior one, but he's not winning championships because of his immaculate strategies, he's winning championships because his players were better, more clutch, more productive than their opponents.

We saw what happened to Gregg Popovich once Duncan retired. No coach in the history of the league would have made a championship team out of Demar Derozan and Aldridge. Popovich was as good his players were, so when he had Duncan, Parker, Ginobili, Robinson and Kawhi, his teams were a perennial contender, once they retired/left, his teams have struggled to make the playoffs. In 19 seasons, the Spurs didn't miss the playoffs once without Duncan, and they've missed them twice in the last 4 years, and barely made it the other two (7th seed, both years). Very similar to Belichick with/without Brady.

We can do justice to Bill and quote him: ''It's a players game.'' He's absolutely right.

Other things also matter. For example you're counting BB taking over a woeful Cleveland Browns team for many of those losses. And how do you explain that as the Patriots HC, BB is
42-2 when a RB has > 25 carries in a game. Maybe the RB is the real key. Lots of ways to look at wins and losses.

His record as HC is what it is. He coached for 5 years there so it absolutely counts. But even if you take it out, he is still sub .500 in NE without Brady and that spans 3+ seasons.

It is interesting you bring up RB. And I know UT will appreciate this as this will get us back on track discussing Pats 2021. When we traded Sony, I said I did not like the trade. I was chastised for being too negative. My contention was that I thought it was a bad idea to trade Sony for a 4th round pick when he was having a very good TC and the focus of our team was going to be to run the ball. I also specifically stated that I was concerned about having a rookie behind Harris and a second year player in Taylor who barely saw the field last year.

So what happens in week 1? The rookie fumbles because that's what rookies do and Bill benches him. JJ Taylor of course is inactive like he was for most of last year forcing Harris to carry the load at RB all game to where he is so gassed that he fumbles inside the 10 costing us a chance to go up and win the game. This is just one example of how Bill the GM totally killed Bill the coach in week one. It is this type of stuff IMO that has been happening all too often.

I will give you one more - we let Thuney walk, a player we drafted and developed who was an anchor for us because "the cap" even though we spent $150 mil on FAs and we trade for Brown who the Raiders were happy to part ways with given he hurt his calf for them and missed multiple games last year. So what happens in week one? Brown goes down with the calf and now we are shuffling our Oline to prepare for the Jete.

And then there's Gilmore, our best defensive player who is sitting for 6 games because Bill did not want to give him a few extra million because "the cap." Wait until we play the Saints, Bucs and Cowboys over the next few weeks to see how that blows up on us.

Again, you guys think we are all "nuts" and their is an "agenda" but you fail to see that IMO Bill's team building approach is antiquated and now a liability in today's NFL.

If BB succeeds then apparently that will take some luster off of Brady in their eyes.... im not sure why they cant seem to get over the either, or, and admit they both contributed to the success of the teams.

So you're now centring your criticism of Bill, chastising him, on one fumble a rookie made that was actually a horrific call by the officials?

Thuney?? He would have cost us a fortune to keep him and killed off a huge chunk of cap space. And how did the Chiefs O Line looks to you the other day? Gilmore? Wasn't attracting huge interest from other teams, is getting on in age and is injured currently and on PUP.

Really Mazz, this is now getting ridiculous.

Remember that the cap is a figment of our imagination. In the world of Mazz it's just simply because Belichick is incompetent, not because of those pesky make-believe numbers we BB-worshippers mention.

I am not chastising for the fumble. Read my post again. I said rookies fumble. This is why I wanted us to keep Sony behind Harris and not a rookie and JJ Taylor who has had trouble getting on the field. That is a GM mistake by Bill and it cost us in week one big time

Ah, the cap again. So predictable. We had $150 to blow the first week of FA but no money for Thuney?

Gilmore is our best defensive player. The time to trade him was last year if we were going to trade him. Now we are in no man's land with Jones/Mills playing as our CB2. This is a terrible management of our most key player. Why spend on that money on the front 7 to just jerk around with Gilmore?

Rhambo never fumbled the ball...the ref screwed up. Watch the video again if you need to.

It was for sure borderline. It was reviewed and stood. I was more peeved that Rhambo never came back again. I get the doghouse and all but when all you have is him behind Harris and Bolden, you need to play him. At the very least, Bolden probably should have gotten more second half carries or White.

BB being a bad HC and GM is hilarious...yes, he isn't perfect, but, nobody is.

Dom Capers was going to be the alt HC choice if BB never agreed to coach in NE.

What would have happened to the Pats if Dom Capers was the coach instead?
