Mac Jones Is Our QB1

I've said this before, but if Mac ends up being a healthy version of Chad Pennington this is one hell of a pick.

Let's not get spoiled.
It’s too bad what happened to Chad Pennington. He had such a bright future until all the injuries. Although he did play for the Jets and dolphins so fuck him…

It's a pretty good comparison. I always liked Brees and thought the Chargers made a mistake when they moved on from him for (ultimately) Phillip Rivers.
The CHargers? How about the Dolphins who chose Daunte Culpepper over Brees. I think if the dolphins have Brees instead of the succession of Culpepper, Beck, Henne, Thigpen, used up Harrington, Green, and I don't know how many mediocre QBs over the last two decades I don't think we dominate the division like we did.

Part of BBs brilliance is pouncing on the panicked and arrogant stupidity of other franchises.

Funny thing is they did it again recently -- they passed on Herbert to pick the ever-injured and decidedly average Tua.

It's a great point, but you could spend the rest of your life looking at just the QB moves the other teams in teh AFC East made over the last twenty years and all of them, passed over guys, bungled multiple 1st rounders and FA signings to end up with the most hapless collection of stiffs imaginable. I think all of them tried 15 or more QBs during that span. I don't even think the Dolphins were the worst, but it'd be a fun exercise to revisit. It'd be a lot of work, though.

Yes, a lot of work. Head coaches I think would be easier. I think these are in order. Jets were surpising stable. Alas, they had some crappy coaches they simply kept too long.

Either we watched two different games or we just disagree which is okay. We just see things different. :)
Huh. I thought it was the best OLine performance of the year. Sacked only once while being blitzed on most of his dropbacks. If he keeps shredding teams when they blitz, they'll back off. I could find a stat of QB hits, but he only took one sack last week and 4 the week before.

If anything, I think the starters who were out better step up their game because BB will go with the guys who's playing the best, not who makes the most money

I think they key to your statements is that they clearly have a lot to reach for, and it's tangible because they have the talent to do it. It's not a talent issue. You could argue the underachieving so far is bad, which it is, but a fan could also realize that it means there is good potential as the season goes.

60 mins, no turnovers.

PFF grades for the rookie QBs so far

PICK NO. 1: QB Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars

Overall Rookie Grade: 50.4 (Rank: 6/6)

Week 5 Grade: 45.2

A week ago, we were speculating whether Lawrence had turned a corner in his rookie season after an impressive game against Cincinnati, but this week was another mistake-riddled performance from him and the Jaguars. Lawrence threw two interceptions in the end zone, and even though one was nullified by a defensive hold and the other came very late in the game, each was a poor decision that cost his team points. He is now in sole possession of the most turnover-worthy plays in the league this season (11), and though he has flashed impressive plays every game, they haven’t come frequently enough to offset those major mistakes that are a near-weekly occurrence.

PICK NO 2: QB Zach Wilson, New York Jets

Overall Rookie Grade: 59.4 (Rank: 2/6)

Week 5 Grade: 53.9

The Atlanta Falcons' defense has been a good get-right spot for several teams this season, so it isn’t the most encouraging sign in the world that Wilson and the Jets' offense didn’t look any better this week than they have in previous games. Wilson’s interception was his lone turnover-worthy play — a bad pass left behind his intended receiver where the defensive back could make a play on it — but this game also saw a lack of the impressive plays from him that have been encouraging thus far.

PICK NO. 3: QB Trey Lance, San Francisco 49ers

Overall Rookie Grade: 59.0 (Rank: 3/6)

Week 5 Grade: 66.3

Lance started for the first time this week and was at the forefront of everything the 49ers did on offense. He carried the ball 16 times, seven more than any running back, and also attempted 29 passes. His worst passing play came early, where he sailed a throw that flew right into the hands of a waiting defender, but his arm talent is clear to see, and there were some very nice passes as the game progressed.

He was dynamic as a ball carrier, gaining 90 yards after contact but getting blasted by the goal line and coming up just short of a critical touchdown. Lance may not have been a clear upgrade over Jimmy Garoppolo as a starter, but he wasn’t a major dropoff, either.

PICK NO. 11: QB Justin Fields, Chicago Bears

Overall Rookie Grade: 54.6 (Rank: 4/6)

Week 5 Grade: 51.3

For the first time, Fields got to play against NFL competition that might provide some true direction for his rookie year. The Browns' defense absolutely dominated Chicago’s offense to the point where there was very little to be gleaned from his starting debut, while Detroit’s defense was too weak to get an accurate reflection of where Fields was. However, the Raiders neatly provided a middle ground. Fields took a couple of sacks that he shouldn’t have and was accurate on just 63.2% of his passes in terms of adjusted completion rate, but he didn’t make catastrophic mistakes and threw his first touchdown in an encouraging performance.

PICK NO. 15: QB Mac Jones, New England Patriots

Overall Rookie Grade: 73.5 (Rank: 1/6)

Week 5 Grade: 72.1

Jones produced only four negatively graded plays against the Texans, but three of them were turnover-worthy, one resulting in an interception. Jones recorded an 82.1% adjusted completion rate and was consistently working the middle of the field well against a Houston defense that was all too often leaving it wide open. Jones remains arguably the most impressive rookie passer to date, but notable mistakes are creeping into his game. He has eight turnover-worthy plays in total across five games, tied for the sixth-most in the league.

I'm seriously worried that Urban Meyer is going to ruin Trevor Lawrence at this point. I hope some halfway decent team trades for him, quickly.

I mean, you saw what I saw chevss. It was Trevor Lawrance, Big Gap, then the next five (and you could argue about the order), when it came to the draft. Lawernce was the no-brainer of no-brainers for a reason.

It won't be a bust because of personality, it will be a bust because Urban Meyer is a horrible fucking coach.

If Lawrence was a Patriot, he would be doing well. Oscar Meyer weiner should go back to college...
