Random Football News, 2021

A great schedule of games this week.
9 games have both teams with winning records which is the most such games this late in the season in NFL history.
Unfortunately none are on today.

Raiders at Cowboys
Bills at Saints
Steelers at Bengals
Buccaneers at Colts
Titans at Patriots
Chargers at Broncos
Rams at Packers
Vikings at 49ers
Browns at Ravens

Also, the idea that Mike Evans is probably the most consistently productive, yet most unimpressive WR of the past decade. For years and years I could not understand why people think he's good and still don't.

He's basically a guy that produces off the rule changes because of his size. But, I'd rather have Edelman all day long and twice on Sundays than ever thinking about wanting Mike Evans on my team.

Wildly overpaid and overrated. He needs to thank Brady and Goodell for his SB ring last year. The least underserving SB winning team in my lifetime during a pandemic. Blech. So unimpressive.
He Averages 70/1,100/8 a season but he’s not good? I guess 🤷‍♂️.

This is hilarious. You know a contract is bad when you immediately have to restructure it. Good thing he paid overrated Byron Jones 15 mil per before giving his own CB a raise. Great GM work, Chris. Your dad sucked, too.

Good thing Chris Grier spent 237 million 2 years ago, the most in NFL history, with 3 of those players no longer on the roster.

bawahah

Exactly my point. I have never seen a more unimpressive version of that in 40 years of watching the NFL. He’s soft and disappears vs good competition. Bloated numbers do not impress me in an offensive era.

It’s why our teams shuts him out every 4 years.

Get it?

He was the 4th or 5th most productive WR in the league in 2019 with Jameis Winston as his QB. He was top 10 every year before Brady got to Tampa last year.
He had 7 consecutive seasons of 1,000 yds receiving...no one else has ever done that.

No. One. Ever.

I'd take him in a heartbeat on the Pats.

You have very strong opinions but that those opinions don't mean you're right.
He's been a very good and very productive player.
I'm glad you're not scouting for the Pats.

Disagree. Invisible. Soft as hell. Stats production in an offensive league is borderline meaningless because everyone produces.

This is like saying Frank Gore has a memorable run in his entire career. He doesn't. No one can list one memorable Frank Gore moment or run in his entire career, but fantasy dorks love Frank Gore. I really don't care about good players when comparing them to elite players. They're not elite. They're good. I am sure fantasy dorks love Mike Evans, too. I watch football and can see who needs to be gameplanned for and who doesn't. A middling or weak D opponents' dream for these kinds of players. Extra yards might be the most meaningless stats in modern sports history. Fantasy stats don't mean jack squat. Go ask BB about stat accumulation and or sack accumulation for defenders.

I wouldn't take him at his money in a million years on this team. Not Patriot material. I am not trying to be right. That's my opinion. I can have one. Evans is like Brandin Cooks. You look up and you see production you realize how meaningless that production was. lmao

At best, it means they should up for work and were consistent. Consistently solid. That's not elite. Not even close. No one will ever remember Mike Evans.

Mike Evans might be the most overrated player of the last decade on offense next to LeSean McCoy and each will tell you how great they are. I pick Joey Bosa on defense. JJ Watt a close second. Stat accumulation isn't football.

My opinion of your opinion of Mike Evans says your opinion is wrong.
Seven 1000 yd seasons in a row, something no WR has ever done, with 2nd rate QBs throwing to him is proof that he's elite.

Aaron Dobson was soft. Mike Evans is not soft.

I wouldn't take him at his present money either but money isn't the discussion here which is player production.

That makes absolutely zero sense. 7 consecutive seasons of at least 1,000 yards are bloated stats? I guess he only gets all those catches, yards & TDs in garbage time.

It doesn’t make sense? This is like saying Andre Johnson was a great player. Can you name memorable Andre Johnson plays or was he just a big target who produced in an offensive league?

There are a gazillion WRs in this league who have high stat production who aren’t gamers.

I want gamers. Either you get the sport or you don’t.

Here’s a guy who blows away Mike Evans:

Tyler Lockett

I would take that guy on my team all day long over Mike Evans. He runs all the routes and has great hands and isn’t soft.

Andre Johnson was a great player. It's not his fault he played for a shitty Texans team most of his career. Just because a player doesn't pass your eye test doesn't make it an absolute.

Had Evans' numbers dwindled with the addition of Brady then you would have an argument, but that wasn't the case. He's been consistent all of his career.

Completely agree, although I wouldn’t call these guys “great”.

They’re large WRs who certainly have loved the rule changes.

You know who was great? Steve Largent. Cliff Branch. Guys who could run every route in the tree and be very good/great in each spot on the field.

Those kinds of guys are great.

Heck, remember Jimmy Smith from the Jaguars? Totally underrated WR who I’d take over Mike Evans or Andre Johnson in a heartbeat.

Those guys aren't walking through the door ever again. Steve Smith, Sr., Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Fred Biletnikoff, Marvin Harrison and Don Hutson aren't either.
We're talking present day and, except for his last 2 years with Tom Brady, Mike Evans was highly productive.
Your guess is as good as mine as to why Brady ignores him in favor of Antonio Brown. Even so, Evans leads the league for TDs by a WR this year with 10

He's definitely overpaid...but, he's very talented though.

I'm struggling to understand how Jerry Jones hasn't overpaid you to come run his football program.:coffee:

Me too. Or, like 60% of these NFL franchises. Jerrah's problem is he isn't as smart as he thinks he is and has proven to be an idiot for 20 years since Jimmy Johnson left. He's like a little boy in a man's body who wants star players everywhere for personal entertainment. It's why they have like only 2 great players on either side of the ball and a bunch of mediocre ones filling in the gaps throughout their top heavy rosters. It's why they're October Champs and losers at the end of the year. Rinse and repeat. So, yeah, I could do better. A lot of us could.

I could have fixed the Jets, Lions, Bears, or any other numerous franchises years ago, as could you or any Pats fan who understand the basic teambuilding concepts BB has practiced here for 20 years. You read the Pats Management Secrets book, at least Vol 1, and just understand the market by position, and don't stray from the core principles, and there it is. it's not rocket science here.

The owner needs to be out of the way completely, the GM and Coach need to grasp these BB concepts and stay patient with those. The answers to the test have been available for 15 years, but these god awful franchises try to get cute and they just can't help themselves. It's hilarious how predictable it is.

It's essentially how you would want to build ANY business. Good, tough people who care and work at their craft. The person is actually as or MORE important than the skill set you're hiring for. Our team is one of the great American businesses. It's true.

The arrogance of other franchises like the Jets running in the total opposite direction of what BB has shown to be tried and true. It's not perfect. Nothing ever is, but it's clearly the best formula in the cap era of the NFL.
