Just putting this out there as a place to share thoughts, track changes to the situation, and center the discussion.

What do people think? If we could bring everyone back, who (or what position groups) would you look to move on from to find an upgrade? Which of our own FAs should we prioritize? Any pending FAs around the league you think would make especially good Patriots?

For convenience, see info (as if 12/10) below:

15 UFAs next year:
DMac (voided year)
Trent Brown
Karras
Hightower
JCJ
Phillips
White
Slater
Bentley
Bolden
King
Langhi
Collins
Folk
Hoyer

4 RFAs:
Meyers
Olszewski
Jakob Johnson
Troy Fumagelli

& ERFA Terez Hall

Cap situation:
  • 47 players signed for 2022
  • Cap is about 86% utilized
  • Just under $30MM cap space available (but remember to reserve maybe $5-7MM for draft picks)

Guys who account for >3% of the cap, and the associated cap savings (negative) if they are cut before 6/1 (and this gives you a general picture of how much could be gained by a restructure):
7.65% - Judon: (8MM)
6.95% - Aghalor: 5MM
6.95% - Henry: (4MM)
6.37% - Smith: (12.75MM)
4.83% - Wynn: (0)
4.76% - Mason: 7.125MM
4.75% - Godcheaux: 5MM
3.79% - J. Jones: 6.15MM
3.45% - KVN: 5MM

Like, but way ahead of me. Trying to plan tomorrow's breakfat.

Cheers

It's difficult to make some of those calls without knowing who is going to retire.

I think it's possible that Hoyer and Slater move into the coaching ranks next year.

I don't know if Slater's going to be a coach. He strikes me more of someone who invested well in real estate and will split time between Brentwood and North Attlebroro or something.

Why would Hoyer retire? He has the best job in the NFL. His job is to sit on the bench and make QB observations while pulling in a nice salary.

Hoyer as QB coach (and/or assistant OC) doesn't count against the salary cap.
