SUPER Wildcard Weekend Game Patriots @ Bills Gamete Thread - Saturday 8:15 PM

one thing for sure.... the pressure is on the Bills. they are expected to win and make a deep run. Foxx, HK or other bills fans that have wandered in can tell us what they would or wouldn't find a "success" (no joking, what would you accept vs. be disappointed). is it SB win or bust? SB appearance ok even if loss? AFC Champ game if they play well and it just doesn't work out this year?

Pats making playoffs with a rookie QB is enough of a success this year for most (all?) of us here. we have the luxury of a lot of success in recent years/decades so maybe we can roll with it and let things develop.
I would LOVE pats to win of course, and want to see a solid effort, especially if Mac can play well in the elements (which we all admit he is not accustomed to but will have to learn to deal with).
I also enjoy (and can relax a lot more :) ) watching other NFL games, so I'm going to enjoy this weekend full of games no matter what happens
SInce you mentioned me, it's a SB or it's a fail. KC and Tennesee are in the way, Cinci, too, come to think of it, but I think they're the most beatable of the three. Then there's Dallas I the NFC, who I feel has a straight shot to the SB.

I think his rushing output had gone down each year, til this year

So his passing stats are heading in the opposite direction of his running stats every year?

Decline is kinda early...

Karma is a bitch.

Why, does the weather bother you that much?
Have you ever been to a game there?? It's not great. I used to go to every game in the SB years. It's miserable in December and January in that wind, not to mention being open air limits it's use for other events.
You're an angry dude. You should think about taking to someone, you know, professionally

Did you see potential in Brady in 2001? Same coach, same system, same arm strength, same motivation & drive.
So you're saying Mac Jones' constitutional foundation is the same as Brady's was? That's a gigantic slight against Brady.

I don't see the connection between appreciating the obvious talent of Allen and necessarily being a Bills fan either.

Mac Jones so far is ahead of Brady by a mile...comparing rookie years.

Allen is one of the NFL's best QB's. I have nothing bad to say about him. The Billies found a legit QB.

Actually, Bills' FANS are asking for a Dome. Between the weather and having a multiuse venue, it makes sense.
The Bills TEAM keeps saying no.

NY State says no, too. Paying for it is the problem as I understand it. Kathy Hochul has a no-win situation on her hands. If she pushes for the new stadium to be paid largely by the state of NY, many will say the state is paying the way for a multi-billionaire owner's hobby (and they'd be right). If she doesn't push for it she risks losing votes of Bills fans. $1.4B without a dome in Orchard Park, $2B with a dome. That's a lot of money for a small market team. She will face criticism either way. It's a shame politics has to get involved.

I understand exactly what you're feeling. I've been a Pats fan since '73 and lived through plenty of lean (but fun) years before Parcells and Belichick came along. Now you're close so it's natural to have those high expectations. Getting there is hard and requires a lot of things to fall exactly the right way. Good luck can be the major factor that separates who gets in and who wins. And luck has nothing to do with the best team or the best coach. Luck can be a crazy miraculous play or 2, an untimely injury, or a referee's decision; luck can be for you or against you. Having high expectations of a SB is certainly understandable. A Lombardi is the ultimate culmination of years & years of being a fan. But there's always luck and luck goes both ways and it can't be controlled. Luck is almost always a factor and it can derail the best laid plans. Every SB run the Pats won or lost had an important element of luck which could have gone either way. The tuck rule, the helmet catch, Gronk's injuries & Butler's int are only a few examples of many. What most of us here have learned is that the journey to get there can be joyful and satisfying all on its own.

In many ways Mac is exactly like Brady as a rookie and 2nd year player. Extremely motivated, driven to excel, years of fighting the odds to be a starter. Physical type. Their play on the field - mechanics, movement within the pocket, throwing motion, accuracy, decision making, reading defenses, learning from mistakes...I could go on and on. The similarities are very real between rookie Mac Jones and 2nd year Tom Brady. There are differences, too. Rookie Jones outperformed 2nd year Brady in every QB category. Jones only had a few months to learn the play book and read defenses while Brady was in his 2nd year before starting. So far, Jones has outperformed expectations and has shown enough to give us confidence he can become very successful for us.
That's not a slight against Brady at all. Brady didn't become the GOAT for another 5 years.

Everyone here recognizes Allen as a good QB. However, most NFL fans don't rank him as highly as Bills fans seem to rank him.

Yes, it's not great, except I could get tickets for $10. It was like a slightly nicer Sullivan Stadium.

I really haven't followed the stadium talk very closely, as far as funding goes because we've had that carrot dangled in front of us so many times, I'd rather just wait and see how it starts to shake out

The only thing that really impeded my confidence is that last year, the Bills were pretty polished going into the Playoffs. This year, there is a lot to be wary of, specifically inconsistencies in all aspects. I think we'll win this week.
NE has played pretty bad since their bye. They lost 3/4 and the only win was against the Jags and then, against us, before the bye - where they only scored 1 TD, 1 67 yrd run called back and we win that game. Also, they have a fair number of subs and line changes on Defense.

On our side, the O-line has played much better. NE will go heavy run again, I feel. The Bills have looked better against the run. I say close game and the Bills will get the breaks.

2 things I worry about; what officials team is going to be there and can Allen avoid giving the ball way, like not one time

As for Allen's perception, it's not just numbers and statistics. Allen has the ability to will this team down the field, and yeah, he gets hit and takes chances but the way he fights for every yard is not something you can put on paper.

Do they black out playoff games?

Last I checked, StubHub is still selling first-party tickets, that is, the game isn't sold out.

$50 seats in the heated club section. :coffee:

I'm not concerned about how Mac plays in this game. As long as he doesn't turn the ball over.

I'm more concerned about the defense making stops on 3rd and long, or making stupid penalties that keep the Bills on the field. Not letting the Bills go ahead early so the offense will have to play from behind.

I think that if the Patriots play a clean game, then they will win.

My point was simply that pure luck, good or bad, will play a bigger role than you think on your road to a SB win.

And Mac, don't throw a pick six in the first quarter. Or any quarter for that matter.
