Mac Jones Is Our QB1

I've heard some analysts suggest that Mac's recent slump is due to his relative lack of patience with letting a play fully develop and trying to
get the ball out of his hand a little too fast. There are some other issues, but I found this one interesting.

When I watch Jakobi Meyers, the thing I notice is that he's really good at getting himself open, but he needs a little time to string his moves together,
which are pretty complicated. The point being that the longer the play goes the greater the likelihood he's going to get his man off balance
and bust open. He's not a slot guy like Jules was who could make one or two cuts and beat guys with explosive spring out of those cuts.

We know Mac's stats indicate he releases the ball pretty quick and is maybe too reliant on check-downs even when his protection
is there.

If there is anything to this theory, which applies to all the WRs and TEs, then I'm hoping he decides to hang tough until the last split second and
throw it away if nothing is there. There's no reason to hold anything back. Buffalo will be sitting on the in cuts again, so let's force them to think
about the boundary and get them off-balance with different routes than they're used to seeing from us.

If Mac hits on a couple of those early and things could start flowing. If we can't then we'll likely be watching a rerun of the last game with Buffalo
defenders daring us to throw wide and looking to step into the box. We need to spread them out.

The makes sense. His receivers in college were open early and often.

WRT to forcing Buffalo to think about the boundaries, that is <drum roll please> on McD to call the right plays.

Jones obviously 'wins' best rookie season for the quarterbacks. It was pretty much a disaster for rookie QB's except Trey Lance who looked good in limited action. Davis Mills also acquitted himself well with a horribly bad supporting cast.

But if Ja'Marr Chase doesn't win Offense Rookie of the Year then it's a travesty.

Playoffs baby! The OL has to be great to give Mac time to perform.
Nothing to lose and everything to gain so the Pats may as well be aggressive with play calling and let it fly once the running game is established.
Get their big defenders running from 1 sideline to the other, wear them out with frequent hurry-up and keep the pressure on them. Don't let them catch their breath.
Start fast by scripting well to get into a rhythm. Give Mac some easy throws to build confidence. Don't get down 14 points early. Personally, I think the TEs should be involved to a great extent in this game. RBs, too. Keep Buffalo guessing by breaking the mold from the last game when they knew exactly what play was coming next. Mac will need to be quick bc the Bills have a great pass rush and their blitzing is effective. And trickery. 4-5 trick plays can go a long way. It's time to pull the stops.

On D it's been a long time since we've worried about our CB corps. Even so, I hope like hell the coaches are willing to at least try to pressure Allen early and often by sending an extra guy. He gets rattled and confused when he's under real pressure. And hold those damn edges to contain Allen's runs. That's my strategy. Now it's up to the coaches to figure out the tactics to make it work. BB's done it before but it's not his normal conservative way of doing things. It's time for hurricane Ida to hit Bill's Stadium.

Mills was the 2nd best rookie QB.

Who knows who will win RoY, but you can't compare the job of an NFL QB to that of a WR.

Chase was great. Mac was unbelievable.

He showed some of it against Miami. Granted Buffalo statistically has a better defense, but it seemed like Dolphins were very aware of where Mac wanted to go with the football. He was able to loft some nice balls to Jakobi and Hunter while hanging on to the ball a considerable amount of time if I recall correctly. If he can build on that, we might have a puncher's chance.
