Looking at the Patriots - 2021

Let me rephrase...

The Patriots passed on Brady 6 times before selecting him at 199 in the 2000 draft, yet Brady is the greatest player in the history of professional sports, which reeks of good fortune. Belichick at least in part let Brady leave New England.
BB dumped a ton of players when he cam e to NE and had a lot of needs. QB was not one of them. He had Bledsoe who had just the year before signed a contract for $107 mil. Doesn't sound like much then but it was huge in 2000.

If you listened to one of ESPN's pieces on BB, he told about drafting Brady. We had no first round pick and so many needs. About the 4th round he noticed that Brady was still there and was surprised. Fifth round it was, "Brady's still there." The 6th round he couldn't take it and drafted him even though he had other needs and did not need a QB. Friez and Bishop backed up Bledsoe in 2000. With all our needs, Belichick saw enough potential (not ready to play in the NFL, but potential) to carry as a 4th QB. Who carries 4 QBs?

Every team passed on Brady. You act like it is all luck and BB gets zero credit for drafting him, but every pick to one degree of another, especially late round picks, is luck. Brady wasn't ready for the NFL. He could barely get on the field at Michigan, getting chances but losing his job to Drew Henson.

It's no different now. Teams love big arms and mobility, neither of which Brady had. It's exactly like Mac Jones. No arm, pocket QB. What Brady had was accuracy, ability to read defenses, ability to anticipate throws, and a driving need to get better. No one cared and Brady could easily have gone undrafted.

If nothing else, BB saw the potential because he he mare valued what Brady had than he was concerned about the lack of a rifle arm or ability to run.

Lastly, yes, he in part let Brady leave. Why is that a bad thing? After all Brady did, he deserved the right to decide when to leave. He certainly didn't like when the Patriots emphasized the run game. Don't blame him. Don't blame BB for reasons to deep to go into here, but Brady wanted to leave. He had insisted on a no-franchise clause in his contract. Belichick had kept the Patriots competitive by dropping players a year too early rather than a year too late. It's popular with a couple of people here to pretend Belichick tossed Brady aside, but Brady was ready to move on.

You came in here with a post blasting Belichick and his ability and tearing apart every QB he drafted except Brady whom you attributed to luck and nothing more. Fine, you aren't the first person to come here and spew venom and rancor. Troll might be the wrong word. Hater is closer. Juvenile is closest. Thanks for stopping by. Now stop being a fucking dick or go away. Thanks.

This is not correct.

Brady started every game in his junior and senior years. Henson was given a chance to play in many of those games, but he never took Brady's job.

From Wikipedia:
Under Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr, Brady battled for the starting job with Drew Henson[42] and ultimately started every game in the 1998 and 1999 seasons. Brady was All-Big Ten honorable mention both seasons, and was the team captain in his senior year.

From Wikipedia:
Lloyd Carr did everything he could to have 'the golden boy' Henson win the starting job but Brady would have none it. The threat was always there for Brady. It made Brady insecure but it also taught him to respond to a challenge properly. Years later Brady responded again when BB drafted JimmyG. The fire was relit.

Someone should point that out to Brady when he's complaining about being pick #199.

I miss Michigan Dave.

Want to bet whether he gets that money from the Pats or another team?
Doubt he gets paid by BB.
Why wouldn't BB pay him? He paid Gilmore and made him the highest paid DB in the league at that time. If BB feels he's worth it, he'll pay him.

I'm thinking that BB wants to spend money on cheaper players at multiple locations.
And have heard from two sources that JC made some business decisions while playing Saturday night.

If you meant losing $ on your next contract because you were terrible playing that game on Saturday night...I agree!

There is a lot of JCJ hate the last couple of days. When the D line can't get pressure and you have slow LBs and not much help in the secondary (the second best player was wearing a club on his hand), I am not getting it. I would pay JCJ and let Devin and Donte walk. Isiah Wynn is fully guaranteed so he will be here barring a trade. In this case we probably can not afford to keep Trent Brown, much as I want to. Hopefully Wade, Jon Jones and a draft pick will solidify the CB position. 1 pick on the LB position. 1 pick on OT. And definitely a DT.

People who have watched the game film, say Jackson completely dogged it all game. Don't know if he was just unhappy with the game plan or what but that is a terrible note to go out on in a playoff game. I am with you that the Pats need to either tag him or sign him. I think the latter probably does not happen but the tag would at least buy another year. Without him next year, the defense will really struggle.

He played Saturday night? lol

I wouldn't even single him out considering how bad the defense was in general. He was hung out to dry as he was the only competent CB out there.

That said, I hope this performance is used to bring his price down when negotiations begin as it was terrible in all fronts.
