The Patriots had a good offensive line in the midpoint of the season. What should they do moving forward?

1. Wynn was below average / mediocre all year. What a crappy contract at 11M/yr. Wynn is either injured all the time, or playing but mediocre. Wynn played guard in college for 3 years, let's move this bust to guard. He's not a left tackle.

2. Onwenu has been a top10 NFL right tackle now for 2 years in a row, and was bad at left guard this past season. Watch them do the dumb thing and force-fit Onwenu back at guard, probably right guard to replace Mason. Nevermind RT is such a valuable spot and Onwenu was an elite RT for 2 years already.

3. Trent Brown has always been an injury-prone right tackle. Meanwhile Scarr in 2018 put Trent Brown at left tackle where he started all year and the Patriots won a championship (their last championship) with Trent Brown dominating at left tackle. Here's a revolutionary thought, how about signing and playing Trent Brown at left tackle??

Wynn should be a left guard. He was pretty good at it. Brown might be somewhere else. Not sure if he's back in NE. Onwenu should play where he's best at. RT? OK, that will work. Brown was good at LT. If he comes back, LT. Andrews is a C. Boom. RG? Not sure...

Pretty sure someone on this forum has been massively questioning Wynn as an LT and calling for Brown/Wynn/Andrews/Mason/Onwenu as the OL lineup since preseason.

Trying to figure out who that could be...

Makes a lot of sense.

Trent Brown re-signed. Good news but they should still fix the OLine with the following. Move Trent to LT. Mediocre Wynn slides to LG which was his college position for 3 years. Onwenu is an ELITE right tackle, play Onwenu at the more valuable RT spot instead of keep force fitting him at guard.

Trent Brown - Wynn - Andrews - newGuy - Onwenu.

I feel that if the plan was to kick Wynn to the guard position, they would not have picked up his option. That's way too much money for a guard especially when Mason was jettisoned for less. So Wynn, for better or for worse will continue as LT unless his replacement is drafted this year.

And I think Wynn will become a LG this coming season and would be gone if the money wasn't guarranteed in the first place.

Mac and the offense are a lot better when Trent plays.

I hear you.

But this is where analytics in the hands of people not too bright can be dangerous (not you but whoever draws conclusions from this in media or in the Pats organization).

Do people forget the idiot OLine coach tried to go with Durant and Herron at tackle for many games when they went 0-4 at home?

So yes, Trent Brown is a great re-signing but those stats are also heavily influenced by how badly the Pats managed the OLine while Trent was out. And it certainly doesn't make the case that Trent should play RT for sure. Trent has been an injury prone RT his entire career, including last year, and he was a durable Superbowl-winning starting left tackle for 1 season.

I wonder, how bad is the cap hit if we trade Wynn? Really not a fan of Wynn at LT again. He's not a good LT.

We need the tackle, first. If it's Owenu, great, but then we need a real RG, not sub-JAGs like Ryan Bates.
