I expect him to look terrible in September but my hope is he is able to get his mojo back as the season progresses.

The problem with this is that I don't think Pats fans will give him any rope at all.
Why do you think that he'll look terrible in September and why do you think Pats fans won't give him any rope?

I don't think he will be NFL-ready by September and I, personally, don't expect him to be. I don't know what caused him to abruptly retire last year, but at 32, I can't see just picking yourself up off the couch and contributing as a CB1 or CB2 by opening day.

Second, I think Pats fans are so spoiled that the level of impatience during this post-Tom Brady reset is almost comical to me. They want to be SB contenders right now and don't give a sh*t that the Pats have $100+ million in cap space next year, because that means they won't be the class of the NFL again this year. Many are frustrated over the lack of impact FA signings, and if the team falters out of the gate, I think the ire of the fanbase will not just be directed at BB, but (unfairly) guys like Butler, as well.

It's hard to erase 20 years of conditioning where you were always the favs to come out of the AFC or at least get to the conference championship game. Also, some folks mistakenly believed that the success of the two decades was primarily driven by Bill and are now just waking up the reality that the GOAT QB was the main reason for the historic run.

I'm really not looking to rehash the Bill vs. Tom debate other than to say, when the most accomplished player in the history of a particular sport is removed from a team, you should expect a period of regression.

I agree. But my point was is most thought Bill would pick things up and the team would be back on top the division and a contender. I think all of us, myself included, are getting an education on the value of just an elite QB much less the GOAT.

I think the Patriots are going to win more this year than people are giving them a chance to.
Last year, no one expected them to make the playoffs, and that was with a team with mostly new players and a rookie QB.

Getting distracted by FA signings is a trap every NFL fan falls into every year. How many of them actually work out?

I hope you're right and I am wrong. I thought they'd win 11 games last year and early on, I looked pretty foolish.

Right now, I simply don't think they're as good as last year, plus Miami got better. Even if the Pats don't make the playoffs, I am still encouraged because perhaps that means higher draft position next year, plus over $100 mil in cap space to play with.

Are you sure Miami got better?

All I saw was them adding another WR, when they have a QB who can't throw. You can only throw to one of them at a time. 🤷
New Coach with zero experience, meddling owner meddling even more, media all up in all the drama...

I dunno, are they actually better?

And yet they find a way to beat us twice a year. Maybe this is a year it doesn't happen

Well they just fired the only coach with a winning record against the Patriots not named Johnson or Shula. 🤷

But this Martian Nobody they brought in, will lead them to the promised land. They said the same thing about Adam Gase. How did that go?

Works for me.

That 2nd paragraph is total nonsense. Impatient? Patriot fans are fully aware of how unusual the success we’ve had is. It’s unheard of in the FA and Salary Cap era, it should not have happened. Fans like me have said we can die happy not winning another SB, we are in no hurry and have all the patience in the world now as Bill builds another team. Most of us here have already written next season off as the rebuild continues.

Honestly, i don't know where you get the idea that Patriot fans are impatient? Unless you’re taking what the Boston media says as being indicative of the fans sentiments…

How is it nonsense when I hear it in my own life on a weekly basis? And my interaction with Boston media is fairly limited (by choice).
