File this under you can't win. My neighbor let me store the wife's car in his garage last winter because we never drove it, work from home etc. Washed and waxed it for the winter. So nice and dry and toasty, out of the weather. Berkshires winter weather is tough. When we finally needed it, we took it out of the garage and it won't run, dashboard looks like times square. Garage just let me know I need wiring harness ends and some input shaft sensors replaced because the mice ate them. A $700 rodent buffet. The cat has assumed no responsibility and has offered zero compensation.

The bolded above made me laugh because I have seen it. Every single warning light lit up. Anti-lock brakes, cruise control, air bags - you name it lit up yet the car drove fine.

I take care of my SIL vehicle when she gets stuck. This spring she discovered the same thing (mice in the engine bay). Nothing I could fix. I took it to a high school closer to Detroit where they have an auto shop program and they were glad to try to fix it. They did. The student tech got an award and the car was fixed at the cost of three wiring harnesses + a dozer donuts ($160). They also changed the oil, balanced and rotated the tires and flushed the coolant system for free because they could and were given class credit. This is an older car (2010 Impala).

As an fyi they sell little battery operated devices that makes noises that only bothers rodents.
We found signs of rodents in the new car and it's been clean since installing the device.

Thanks. That will take less time than letting the cat out of the engine bay twice a day for litter box breaks..
