The Golf thread

Really enjoying this tournament. my man Hovland tied for first! I actually wouldn't mind Rory winning either as he has gone a long time. There's no one I'm "Against" anyway so I'll just enjoy it tomorrow and whatever happens happens.

I hope it's tight and it comes down to McIlroy and Hovland on the 18th tied! Today both of them had shots at Eagles, but also played it smart and kept makeable Birdies (or so it appeared anyway). Imagine if either has to hit the shot to win/tie? Would the weight of how long it's been for Rory be a factor ?

I don't expect either/both Hovland and McIlroy to give up 4 strokes so the "Cameron's" and everyone else trailing are in tough spots, but you never know!
Can't say I was surprised Cam Smith was +1 he's gonna have to prove he can do it on Day's 3 and 4

could weather play a factor?

AND now for something completely different,

Jean Van de Velde 1999 Open at Carnoustie, final round , 18th (final hole), at tee with three stroke lead.

In Randolph Mass and then N. Truro with the family. No golf for me for a couple of weeks. :-(

I brought the sticks just in case the family wants to go to the movies one afternoon. In case. Just.

Ain't happening but if I didn't bring them they would go see a double feature for sure....

Wish us no sharks out on the cape!

I remember when a double feature was plenty of time for 18 holes with recovery in the 19th.

Have great vacation.

Cheers

I thought that the winning score for the Open at St Andrews would be less than -10. However, I looked it up and the average winning score is -16.
Right now the 2 leaders are at -16, with 16 more holes to play.

I dunno. That does seem high. Maybe the course is pretty playable except, ... WEATHER. 🤷

What a round from Cam Smith. he couldn't miss with that putter which shows it always come down to that....

I can picture him in a vest back in Queensland, Australia with a cold Victoria Bitter in one hand watching the Rugby League on the TV!

Congrats to Cam Smith
McIlroy and Hovland couldn’t get it going today like they did on Saturday

I'm a lefty so I have been studying videos of Phil Mickelson's swing because I don't know of any other left handed golfers. I'm learning lots of great stuff and already see a couple major things that I have been doing wrong. We'll see how much it helps me.

I golf lefty. Technically "right handed" but was probably meant to be left handed... in kindergarten/head-start they forced me to use my right, yup, the early 70's for ya! :)

anyway, I have been working on my swing and watching golf vids. for me, it doesn't matter which way they are swining (so far anyway), I just try to be sure I get the various (gazillon) things right for the way I swing. I have seen some good improvements, but I was also so "beginner" I have plenty of runway to get better

He’s not left handed but switched because the his dominant hand is his right.....

Wow, I didn't realize that. It still helps me to actually see someone who knows wtf they're doing while swinging left handed. 😂

One of my favorite players, Tony Finau won yesterday.
The FedEx playoffs start the 1st week in August with the top 125 golfers, then each week fewer qualify for the next tournament. The Final is the last week of August, just before football season starts.

Finau looks like he's using his kids clubs! that or he is so tall/thin it makes the clubs look extra short?!? it works for him.
