Looking At The Patriots 2022

I believe he has several tiers of incentives. I'm pretty sure he gets paid pecans and cashews for playing time percentage levels, and if he makes the pro-bowl, he gets paid macadamia nuts.
What, no pistachios???

I wish all this new Info about Brady to have come out last year before Tamper Tom came here last year :hang:

I still don't understand teh over the top Buffalo love. Best in the NFL? They won their division by one game, and most of the good teams they played they lost to. They are the 2008 Patriots (who, by the way, amassed a better record). I mean, they're good and will certainly compete for the AFCE, but I wouldn't be building a place to hang a superbowl banner just yet if I were them.

Agreed. I mean, I'll watch Pats' preseason games, but we all know the majority of fans would fast-forward these games if we had the chance.

I like preseason because I want to be able to focus on the rookies and new guys without worrying about the score. Sure, the gameplan
is garbage, but sometimes you can get a feel for how certain guys, or the whole team really, respond to tough situations.

This can happen in a variety of ways and I'm pretty sure Bill finds them interesting enough that he'll sometimes throw the kids in against
a team trying to get their starters some reps. One example of that was back when Coughlin was coaching the Giants, he appeared to be upset
with the first team and left them in there until the start of the 4th quarter. Meanwhile, we had the back end of the bench in there and they
seemed to be far more fired up than New York and worked their asses off and played the Giants tough. We didn't win the game, but I came
away from that one thinking that we had some kids in that locker room that really liked to play tackle football.

In general, I will be looking at the draft picks and last year's guys that didn't play or played very little. I want to see them matchup with
legit NFL players and get an indication of who they are. There are a number of guys this year who have me very curious.

The part I actually hate about preseason is the morons in the broadcast booth quitting early and giving each other noogies and yucking it up while avoiding the only
information I want out of them..........tell me who is in on the field. Focus on the players on this team and try to point something out about them.

Couldn't agree with you more. So many people I know and friends tell me they half-ass
watch preseason games, turn them off at halftime, etc. I'm riveted to those games in order to see the rookies and other new guys. I find the preseason games fascinating.

Yeah, I actually don't like the 3-game setup. Game four was my favorite. Yeah, I watched game three carefully, but when all the slappies were out there, as Hawg said, you could focus on who was doing what. Of course, it's also when we fell in love with Bam Childress and ... who was that TE that BB tried to slip on the practice squad but Rex Ryan claimed on waivers? Name began with a "G" IIRC. And another similar guy I had a mancrush on that the Vikes claimed on waivers. Man, it's tough getting old. Memory is shorting out

Agreed monster year last year...
(It's not always about the qb)
GM/HC count
Bills should still be rated higher than Pats and the "Tamperers" but I expect Bills to regress.
Oh Ya , Jets .......It's the Jets
And Tamperers...Still roll with tua
Pats get their own house In order , The division is theirs to be taken

Allen had a good year but not compared to 2020. He regressed. Whether that means anything or not will play out this year., but...

Compared to 2020, in 2021, Allen had
a worse W/L record
a lower completion record
lower TD%
higher INT%
Only one less TD but 50% more INTs
Large drop n QBR.

Allen is still one of the top-rated QBs in the NFL, but those are a lot of markers that went south, and Allen most definitely did not have as good a year in 2021 as the year before.

Like most first year starting QBs he had a mediocre rookie year and improved in his second and third years. But then dipped in year 4. Aberration? Will he'll shoot backup in 2022 or has he found his level. No way to tell now, but it's a legitimate question which makes the media ball washing misplaced IMO.

I also think the downplaying of Mac Jones is a little overdone, especially regarding his like improvement in his sophomore year. I know it doesn't always happen - witness TFB in 2002 - but usually it does. In allen's rookie year he had:
10 TDs, 12 INTs
QBR under 50
completion percentage 53%

Jones numbers in those categories:
22 TDs, 13 INTs
QBR about the same as Allen
Completion percentage 67%

He improved the next year, but his second year didn't match Jones' rookie numbers.

We'll see what happens this year. Either team could take the division. I just think some people are going way overboard with the Bills love. I don't mean Mazz. Her posts are pretty much all the same and mean nothing really. But the mainstream media is definitely on team Allen and are sleeping on Team Mac.

Bills will definitely compete for the division, but this "best team in the AFC" is crazy stuff.

You know, it's interesting. Coming into camp I was nervous about the CBs and LBs. Now, not so much.

If Mills is back to Mills before his injury, we have a legit CB1 (if not a superstar). We know we have a slot corner, and we have 3 real possibilities to be a legit CB2, not to mention more quality safeties than you can shake a stick at.

Our LB situation seems to be rounding into shape as well, as McMillan and Wilson both seem to be looking good and playing fast.

I have no concerns about our DL, though I would like to see another pass rusher emerge opposite Judon.

Now it's really just the OL that has me worried. I expect it will snap into place pretty suddenly...I just hope it's sooner rather than later.

It's fascinating how quickly young players who have played very little ascend to become solid players. They spend a year, sometimes 2, in the background learning and then suddenly they're performing like rock stars. Anfernee Jennings was a complete enigma and now look. Uche is another. Wilson has found himself again. I like this group, too.

Another pass rusher would be very nice. I'm still hoping Uche or Jennings or someone can come through. Jennings took Judon's place in last night's practice.

Onwenu may become a backup again especially if "outside zone" sticks. In last night's practice he alternated with (gulp) James Ferentz in Outside Zone plays for the 1st string O. He's just not quick enough for that blocking scheme. Speaking of outside zone and McVay's style O vs Shanahan's style O, I'm beginning to think BB wanted to give our D a taste of what to expect this year since so many teams are adopting those O styles. Miami is all in on Shanahan's style with Mike McDaniel, Shanahan's OC, as HC. It makes me wonder if this outside zone look is simply BB's way of trying it out to see how it works with our personnel & to learn how to best defend it. I won't be surprised to see it dropped completely in the near future in favor of last year's gap scheme. No inside info, that's just me thinking out loud.

Could Bill be so Al on on this D that he would sacrifice the O to get the D ready?

Does he think this D could be THAT good or is the sacrifice required due to the amount of McVay the D will be forced to deal with?

I think Bill has spent too much energy on implementing the Mcvay offense to not have it be at least part of their offensive approach going forward. Bill indicated that they are not going to abandon their old offense and will use both schemes situationally.

Really, really hard to master and staff TWO different O schemes.

I don't think It's too big a reach to Implement certain aspects of It.
Still have concerns that Matty P/Joe Judge are the right people to do It.
I'de almost send Matty P back to D co-ordinator and have BB run the Offense.

I'm thinking a few plays scattered here and there to keep defenses guessing & on their heels. I can't imagine outside zone becomes our bread and butter rushing attack. It's not working so far as our D has torn it to shreds.
