Patriots Offensive Line

Leatherwood was the Outland Award recipient for best lineman in college. Protected Mac’s blind side and also paved huge openings for Najee in Alabama. As an elite LEFT TACKLE, not right tackle. Good LT insurance if Trent goes down.

Here’s a final plug for Daryl Williams. Played over 600 snaps for a great Bills offense last year mostly at right guard but a bit at right tackle as well. Solid across the board. Still available. 29 years old. Could bring him in and then move Onwenu to RT. Have Wynn either play RG, traded away, or platoon with Daryl Williams at RG.

Should the Buffalo Bills bring back offensive lineman Daryl Williams?

Maybe. What I've noticed is that sometimes, people reach their peak at an early age and never improve.

Some peak in high school, or even earlier. Some peak in college - they look really good competing against others in the 18-22 age bracket.

But after that, the pond gets really big, and all of a sudden there's a bunch of people with talent & experience & desire waiting to eat your lunch. Some people thrive on that, and others are daunted.

I don't know if Leatherwood is one those of those who peaked early, or if just hasn't had the right coaching or been put in the right environment where he can thrive. Given his size and pedigree, he'll probably get another chance.

True. But I’m gonna say it’s worth a cheap flyer since he was immediately asked to switch positions. the kid is a stretch zone left tackle, not a right guard or a right tackle.

Oh, absolutely, and it's the kind of signing we've seen BB make throughout his career.

Would be a classic BB move to take a castoff like Leatherwood and give the player second life.

I’m also curious how Daryl Williams is available. I wonder if his agent was asking for too much. Decent player. Could do what Karras did last year. I also wonder if the team thinks Hines can step in. He was a surprise keep.

Even though the Pats have a lot of new young players they still have the 2nd oldest team in the league.
But remember, Hoyer, Slater and Folk are 36, 35, and 37 years old which skews our average age. In reality, our team got younger as far as players go.

also 10+ really young guys.
makes sense.
keep aging quality vets, add many young guys.
purge out the rot from the crappy pre-Wolf/Groh draft classes

Don’t know if Hines can step in this year at RG, but I have more faith in Hines at RG, than Herron or any other backup trying to play RT (should slide Onwenu to RT)

Herron has actually looked pretty good when he's played LT. He looks so awkward, uncomfortable, and overmatched on the right side. At LT he wasn't a world-beater, but he actually looked comfortable and more confident, and his performance was...fine. At a level I'm comfortable with from a developing backup.

...but it's been awhile since I've seen him on the left at this point, I think.

Good call, Agree on Herron. Some guys are left side blockers. Others are right side blockers. It’s a thing. A bit like being a right handed or left handed hitter. Onwenu is an elite right tackle but should not play LG.

I’m ok with Herron as a backup LT but he has zero business ever playing any RT snaps. Similarly, small sample size but Trent Brown may have a home as an elite reliable LT whereas he’s an injury prone RT.

I also think Leatherwood has a chance if he’s moved back to LT by the Bears. He is not a right guard and the Raiders screwed that up

Leatherwood.
2nd in sacks given up last year with 8
3rd in penalties with 14
80th ranked G last year. Just awful.

I guess Bill loves his cheap peaks, but apparently still has standards.

Cheers

At right guard absolutely. It was not smart to take a left tackle and force fit him on the right side just because he’s big.

If he isn't athletic enough to play G how in the world is he athletic enough to play T? Speed rushers will be around him like he wasn't even there.
