The Golf thread

I bought one of those PXG gen 5 drivers they have been advertising relentlessly and just used it at range for the first time yesterday. I really like it! I'm not good enough to get into the minutiae of a golf club, I just know this thing hit the ball suprisingly father then my prev driver - a used Cobra Radspeed Xb - that I had picked up out of the used club bin a year ago

On the Gen 5 I got the "more forgiving" model, and also I did some sizing based on my arm measurement to the floor (crease of wrist to floor) and according to all the info I found, despite being 6' tall my 34" measurement to the floor indicated a 1/4" shorter club. never quite felt comfortable with the used driver, so for the $299 sales price i figure "what the hell" and and got the PXG in 1/4" shorter lenght. I have to say, I think the sizing is better and except for one wiff (totally swung over the ball, missing it completely, then acting like I meant that as a practice swing) i was crushing it (for me). was worried shorter would mean topping it constantly but nope, worked great.

I had made a comment earlier in this thread on how it looked like Tony Finau was using kids clubs.... guess his long arms offset his height, and he sure seems to do well.

Taking our middle son to the PXG retail location in Troy MI on Thursday afternoon. I can't get my driver out of his bag so with the big sale going on (and the endorsement on here) we decided to get him one. I am more than a little curious how this 60 minute fitting process is going to work for him. He has always used my hand me downs until last year when my clubs just started leaving with him when he golfed with his friends. His swing has settled in nicely and he hits my R9 tp 30-40 yards beyond me these days. The day is coming when I lose over 18 holes (has happened over 9 already).

great! and a full fitting is the best way to go. I wanted to buy my older Son a new driver, but decided to wait (he's away at college) until we can get him a fitting by a pro. he (and me) had just grabbed whatever and tried to make it work. I'm sure they will both benefit from someone who knows what they are doing. good luck

Can I be your son? :ROFLMAO:

Just saw that the LIV is having an event in Boston. Any one living in the Boston area know anything about this? I guess if the Saudis are going to pump money, they don't need fans or TV coverage.

Yeah, it’s happening in Lancaster. Caused some outrage earlier this week:

It looks like the LIV plays team matches. With 12 teams, I don’t know how they get to a winner over a 4 day tournament. Actually, I don’t really care.

They only play 3 days. No one gets cut. Everyone gets paid.

LIV = Exhibition

No thanks.

I have a feeling the LIV thing will be a fad that will fizzle out
(now get off my lawn)

A golfer was involved in a terrible car crash and was rushed to the hospital. Just before he was put under, the surgeon popped in to see him.
"I have some good news and some bad news," says the surgeon. "The bad news is that I have to remove your right arm!"
"Oh God no!" cries the man. "My golfing is over! Please Doc, what's the good news?"
"The good news is, I have another one to replace it with, but it's a woman's arm. I'll need your permission before I go ahead with the transplant."
"Go for it doc" says the man. "As long as I can play golf again."
The operation went well and a year later the man was out on the golf course when he bumped into the surgeon.
"Hi, how's the new arm?" asks the surgeon.
"Just great," says the businessman. "I'm playing the best golf of my life. My new arm has a much finer touch and my putting has really improved."
"That's great," said the surgeon.
"Not only that," continued the golfer, "my handwriting has improved, I've learned how to sew my own clothes and I've even taken up painting landscapes in watercolors."
"Unbelievable!" said the surgeon, "I'm so glad to hear the transplant was such a great success. Are you having any side effects?"
"Well, just one problem," said the golfer. "Every time I get an erection, I also get a headache."

I really enjoyed watching the Korn Ferry Championship yesterday. The emotion, anxiety and clutch play was something else. The top 25 earned their PGA Tour cards for 2023. The tension was palpable through the TV. The emotions were real and obvious.

That is how it should be. EARN your way.

If you can find it on repeat (its on right now - Golf channel) I highly recommend it.

While the LIV is poaching players from the PGA, the PGA has a system to bring in good young talented players. They have to earn their way on to the PGA Tour. And when they do, it's a dream come true.

When LIV players can't get into the Masters or other majors, I think we'll start seeing some change of heart
then again, they are raking in millions.
have to admit... I was "todays years old" when I found out that LIV - which as we all know means 54 in Roman numberals - refers to the 54 holes they play. doh! 🤦‍♂️
I figured it was Saudi thing, like how many journalists they've executed or something. :coffee:
