Mac Jones Is Our QB1

Mac is our QB1 and it appears he is determined to back defenses away from the short zones.

I've said it before, but when Tyquan gets back here he is going to change the way this team has been defended for the last 3 years plus.

Then, we are going to see the kid paint.

Can't come soon enough. He's exactly what the offense needs.

Agholor has the ability to take the top off defenses, but he lacks the ability to consistently beat tight man coverage on the intermediate stuff, which makes him relatively straightforward to defend.
Bourne has the ability to beat tight man coverage underneath/intermediate, just has a knack for getting open, is arguably the only guy who can consistently get separation against man coverage on the team. He can push the field deep but isn't a Burner.

Thornton is both. He has the route-running and change of direction to kill guys in man coverage, and he has the speed and stride to run past you. He can do both and it will be huge when he gets on the field.

In the meantime, they need to play Bourne a lot, because as I said above, he is the only WR on the team who can consistently beat man coverage. Not to say Agholor, Meyers, or Parker suck, they have their roles and will contribute, but they need someone like Bourne (and Thornton).

Currently re-watching the game from Sunday and Phil Simms made this observational comment: "Mac Jones goes through his reads as quickly as any QB in the NFL." It was clear he meant it as a compliment.

No. Impossible. He HAD to mean he does it in a panic.

Had to.

Only way to "hear" that.

Mac Jones is a decent starting quarterback, one of the best the Patriots have had, since I started watching the Pats, in the early 1970's. He's had some good coaching, since he's been in the NFL (Belichick, etc). I'm trying to decide who's been the Patriots 2nd best qb, since I've been watching. The best is far above the rest. But 2nd best? It could be Grogan or Bledsoe. Mac Jones may become the 2nd best (or best, I guess). Plunkett had his good days, as a Patriots qb, but his coaching with the Pats probably wasn't the best. He did win two championships with the Raiders, in the early '80's.. Anyway, you'd have to have lived through the older days, to really know who was the best. Stats don't tell the whole story-pretty much all quarterbacks threw more interceptions, before the 90's, I guess. I think if the Patriots pick up some great receivers in the next few years, Mac Jones will improve (barring injury to him).

Grogan - Bledsoe is a tough call. Grogan was tough and I loved him, but Bledsoe was the guy who turned the Patriots around. As you say, and I htink ...Muse?... you had to live through those lean years to fully appreciate what we have now.

But I'd have to put Bledsoe between Brady and Grogan as 1-2-3. #4 would be Parelli. Plunkett was awesome but he's still #5 based on what he did for the Patriots, not SF or the Raiders. I do feel badly for him because he got the shit beat out of him playing for the Pats.

:sulk:
No love for Rohan Davey? Michael Bishop? Both were undefeated as starters, dontcha know...

But in all seriousness, where would Flutie fall? Behind those 5, but ahead of Eason?
