When we drafted Strange, there was some disagreement around whether he'd be good or not, but I remember pretty broad agreement that he would likely struggle mightily against the biggest and most powerful DTs. The past two weeks he lined up against Quinnen Williams, DeFo Buckner, and Grover Stewart, who are all on the high end of size, weight, and power. He struggled mightily.

He will have better help when Andrews comes back, and going forward will have a pro-level strength and conditioning program. He plays pretty smart, with good positioning and technique, but doesn't have the bulk or power to hold up against the biggies yet. It should be better next year, where he needs to be in year 3, and he's probably not going to hit peak power until years 4-6. For the rest of this year, my guess is that there are some technical adjustments he can make to help him out, like lower anchor and some hand placement, but I don't know. I'd also need to look ahead to see what we've got coming for DTs after Williams again next week.

I'll be interested to see what the film shows about Yodny. I don't see BB focusing a run game behind him, but he should have the ability to hold up in passpro. We'll see, but I don't think they would have traded Herron if they didn't feel reasonably good about The Bod.

The talent didn't just evaporate. This could be a players-only meeting away from gelling over the bye week. Or it could be the millstone around the team's neck the rest of the way. If it clicks, 5-3 the rest of the way is certainly possible and l should get them there, especially if wins come against Miami, Jets, and Bengals. If it doesn't click, it won't matter if they get the wildcard or not.

“How can a QB be good when the play book stinks, the play calls stink, the OL can’t protect, the timing is awful, the spacing is poor, and no one wins in their routes?” Orlovsky said in a follow-up tweet.

Agreed. Pats need to throw more on 1st down. Use 3 WRs sets to keep defenses from loading the box then use PA or run from these formations. More RPOs. Get the TEs more involved in the passing game. So much to do during this bye week.

Agreed. Also, 2-TE personnel, but some variety in where the TEs line up. HB, FB, slot, flank, and split wide.

More pre-snap motion!

A lot more 3rd and shorts for Mac. Don’t put him in tough 3rd and longs

I thought I had noticed Yodny throwing some impressive run blocks watching it live, with one in particular where he waltzed somebody backwards about 10 yards, but the review from Lazar says he was a disaster in pass pro and gave up way too many pressures.

I keep seeing a potential player in him, but I'm starting to think it's confirmation bias and he's no better than Wynn or Cannon. Worse, even.

If we want to try and fight for a postseason berth then we have to get the RT position settled and Onwenu is the only guy on the roster that can do it. We'll just have to shuffle through the guys left to find a pair of guards that can hold up.

I'm at the point where I just want to try something different and if it sucks, at least we'll be making a bid.

Can Cajuste play RG? then Onwenu to RT

So, the other day I was listening to the NFL channel on Sirius and they had Paul Alexander on as a guest.

If you don't know who he is then a google search will show you that he is about as accomplished an OL coach as there has ever been. His most recent job was coaching
the Potsdam Royals in Germany, so I started wondering whether he'd be interested in a job here. I figured maybe he's too old or sick or has lost his passion for the game, but
that doesn't seem to be the case. He's 60 and projects young. I know he's not making much doing a weekly radio appearance with Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller, good as those guest spots are.

Then, I hear him talking about how he did a complete breakdown on how Justin Fields is getting such big yardage in rushing and it was fascinating stuff. He's very
innovative, opinionated, tough-minded and engaging. Funny, too. He's a motivator who has coached in the playoffs in 7 different seasons with the Bengals, Jets, Giants and Cowboys. He's been on the cover of SI and has coached numerous pro bowlers. He is a passionate football lifer and I don't understand why he doesn't have a job in the league now.

I doubt anything could happen during the season, but I think it would be great if Bill calls him and convinces him to coach for us. Pay the man what he deserves because it's
a great investment in the team.

I don't know what their relationship is like, but I'm pretty sure they know each other. Make this happen, please. Our present staff is not able to get guys squared away the way
that Dante could and that is exactly the person Alexander reminds me of. I'm convinced he can help us be better starting with day one.

Fuck, hire him now as a consultant and let him try to patch some of the holes.
