Patriots Offensive Line

So, the other day I was listening to the NFL channel on Sirius and they had Paul Alexander on as a guest.

If you don't know who he is then a google search will show you that he is about as accomplished an OL coach as there has ever been. His most recent job was coaching
the Potsdam Royals in Germany, so I started wondering whether he'd be interested in a job here. I figured maybe he's too old or sick or has lost his passion for the game, but
that doesn't seem to be the case. He's 60 and projects young. I know he's not making much doing a weekly radio appearance with Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller, good as those guest spots are.

Then, I hear him talking about how he did a complete breakdown on how Justin Fields is getting such big yardage in rushing and it was fascinating stuff. He's very
innovative, opinionated, tough-minded and engaging. Funny, too. He's a motivator who has coached in the playoffs in 7 different seasons with the Bengals, Jets, Giants and Cowboys. He's been on the cover of SI and has coached numerous pro bowlers. He is a passionate football lifer and I don't understand why he doesn't have a job in the league now.

I doubt anything could happen during the season, but I think it would be great if Bill calls him and convinces him to coach for us. Pay the man what he deserves because it's
a great investment in the team.

I don't know what their relationship is like, but I'm pretty sure they know each other. Make this happen, please. Our present staff is not able to get guys squared away the way
that Dante could and that is exactly the person Alexander reminds me of. I'm convinced he can help us be better starting with day one.

Fuck, hire him now as a consultant and let him try to patch some of the holes.

I have heard him several times on the NFL Channel. Sounds really intelligent. Agree that it is weird that he isn't already in the league. Maybe he likes being on the radio and chasing grand kids?

Who knows.

I often hear him on Kirwan's show & I heard that too. He's always informative and he makes it entertaining and understandable without any bs. His breakdown of the Bears line play for Fields was one of the best 4 minutes I've spent on football this year. At the time I thought I'd love to hear Alexander and BB talking OL play over a mug of beer.

Exactly! That show is always at least good, but that particular segment was great.

I have to assume that he doesn't want to coach anymore, but I couldn't find any quotes or references to that.

He's not just a knuckle-dragger, either. He decided that he wanted to learn how to play piano a few years back and instead of screwing around he enrolled in the U of Cinncinati's music conservatory. He's written books, frequently speaks on elite performance and has conducted an orchestra.

Maybe the NFL just isn't enough for him, but it's possible that he has the itch again. Anyhow, I just thought it was worth a thought.

We've all had plenty of chances to see what a difference the right coach can make as in when Dante unretired and turned it around quick.

Yes hire Alexander or bring Popovich back or throw a bunch of money at Scar for 3 months. The OLine is a mess, Strange is regressing and can’t run any pass plays past 2 seconds because there is no right tackle

6 sacks and 8 QB hits was pathetic

Pats OLine is league worst in pass protection

Cut Wynn and Ferentz immediately

Curran and Ted Johnson on NBC Boston post-game are apoplectic and pissed over the Pats winning. They're spitting while talking!!! 😂

It's going to be like shooting fish in a barrel for those guys all week, but we've won 5 of our last 6. And that is a fact.

We can't fix the O line this season. The good news is that not many teams can rush like the Jets, but the bad news is that everybody
can give us problems. We've just got to cobble together some sort of red-zone offense with the guys we have now and win ugly,
because we aren't, um, dynamic.

That's a fact, too.

No INTs two weeks in a row. That's also a fact.

Yeah, I agree. We just have to somehow cobble the protection, but it isn't going to be easy. The run blocking was and has been good, overall. On third and short it hasn't been and we're so predictable. I'd like to see some jet sweeps or RIPOS in those situations.

It's not like Mac had a superb day that put all issues to rest, but, he completed 85% of his passes with the Jets front 7 sitting on his rib cage for about
250 yards on a shitty day for throwing and I can't recall any that were close to being picked. Maybe that's something to feel good about besides the D
playing consistently brilliant for the last half-dozen games.

It was an improved version of Mac Jones from the one we've been watching.

I really do feel like if he had even decent protection he would be just fine

Better, most definitely.

I'd also mention that I saw two examples of his ankle still giving him some trouble. One was a scramble trying to get to the sticks where he tried to cut back inside and there was a lot of torque on that leg and he didn't feel he could plant properly, wiped out and came up a yard short. The other was when he was running to his right and I don't think he could set that plant foot down correctly and his throw came up short, but, really, he was accurate with his throws the whole day. I think we've forgotten about the ankle, but Mac hasn't. He still feels it.
