What To Do After Patricia’s Lions Contract Ends in 2022

Kendrick Bourne is not wrong:

“We just need to scheme up better," Bourne said of their third-down woes this season. "We need to know what they're doing. We need to know what they want to do on third down. We're kind of sporadic. They call this, we call that, and it falls right into what they want. We need to have it where they're falling into what we want.”

Translation:
The current playcaller is playing checkers while the DC for the other team is playing chess, and we're losing.

Kendrick Bourne gets it.

Too bad he’s going to be benched now from the same stubborn hardhead Patricia who benched their best cornerback (Malcolm Butler) in a superbowl loss where the Eagles never punted all game.

From this article:

"But this is exactly the problem with Matt Patricia. He inherited an All-Pro cornerback, then was forced to play two guys who are worse in his win-now season because he wanted to embarrass Slay over an Instagram post. You don’t usually get better by playing worse players, and that’s especially true when you already suck."

Sound familiar? Bourne, anyone? Mac?

Also, from the article:

"Word gets around the league about this kind of stuff too, and Matt Patricia’s reputation made it more difficult for the Lions to attract free agents. In an MMQB poll of agents during the 2019 offseason, Detroit was ranked the fourth-worst destination for free agents. Among the reasons: “Detroit has the added knock of a locker room that appears dysfunctional to players looking in from the outside. ‘Especially with Matt ‘I think I’m Belichick but I haven’t done (expletive)’ Patricia,’ one agent said.”"

Yup. I am 100% guilty for being a broken record for the last 6 weeks about Patricia. Maybe it is because I lived the Patricia shit show once already and recognized it for what it is sooner than most. No. Not maybe.

I love this team and there is a ton of promise starting with the HC, a set of RB's and a QB that can be good. Very good. Watching an entire season with them get wasted only makes it harder to watch. Watch again, I mean.

I know, broken record.

No, Bill is actively damaging Mac's career, he was the one that traded a pro bowl guard, reached for a 4th rounder in the 1st to replace him, traded up in the 2nd to pick, and miss again on a wr that can't play, then installed not one, but two guys to run the offense that never had before. What are we talking about here, this is Bill and h needs to go.

Not even two weeks ago you were speaking glowingly about BB. It takes this little to turn you back into a full blown Debbie Downer?

Would think that Kraft is definitely not happy. His discussion with BB is either imminent or already been done.
Kraft will demand changes to the coaching staff for next year. I would bet that no way does Patricia get fired but gets moved on the staff. Ideally bring in a new OC and Oline coach. Would BB buy into that?

BB made the same mistake as Andy Reid in Andy's last year with the Eagles. Reid used a long time Oline coach as his DC. Reid got fired.

In last night's game our OTJT OC was matching wits with Buffalo's DC that has 20 years experience on that side of the ball.

Evidence, it's as simple as that. I wanted and hoped this would go well, and for a very brief moment it looked like Bill was going to pull this off. Do you honestly believe this team is headed in the right direction now? We can't even really determine if we have a QB or nit because of the morons Bill chose to run the offense. You can call me a Debbie Downer all you like, but tell me, what exactly is there to be up about this team?

Pats are 6-6 last I checked. Your response strikes me as if you were supporting a bottom tier team looking at the top picks of the draft.

I get the offense looks inept, and yesterday was a very frustrating game to watch as a fan. The Bills have the upper hand and that can suck considering how Pats used to own the Bills.

As I said earlier, you were very optimistic about the team pretty recently, and last I checked a few weeks back the same players/coaches were on the team then. A loss to the Bills means the team is not looking ready to contend, but to think all is lost because of that seems shortsighted.

I'm ready for a full-on tank. May as well try for a top-10 pick at this point to fit into next year's squad. We're all putting blame different places (and blame pie percentages and all that), but we all see the same result. This team's not going anywhere, and winning games at this point is just going to hurt their draft position. After the season, re-evaluate.

There are plenty of pieces in place and lots of talent on this team. It's time to figure out what's holding it back, and adjust accordingly, but it's too late to fix that this year.

Maybe in the frustration of watching last night and half a dozen beers made me lean into the darkness. However I'm just not optimistic that we are going to see much improvement over the next 5 games. I don't agree with many here that Bill gets a life time pass based on past accomplishments, these are his choices and no one else's.

I think BB is better than almost any other HC option, maybe 1-2 names that’s it. But Kraft has to say something about the offensive staff, it’s pathetic.

I think a BB as HC, and Bill O’Brien as OC staff could win another ring.

As a head coach I agree, but his choices as a GM can't be excused. The proof is out there on the field and on the cap. He just spent a record amount on players and the only elite player we ended up with is Judon. At the end of the season something is going to have to change, Kraft may be hands off, but you can bet that if Bill is intent on bringing back Patricia and Judge to oversee the offense again next season, that may well be be a bridge too far for the owners.

agree but this is partly why I was thrilled to see some rot go to the Raiders. The college roommates from John Carroll college (mcdaniels, caserio, ziegler) made disastrous personnel moves from 2013-2020. The Jonnu FA class was these morons before they left.

I think Groh and Wolf are turning it around but it will take another home run draft and free agency to fix.

Okay, (T)Irsay.

Patricia needs to go NOW before he kills a legit first round QB solely because the QB doesn't bow down to him....

Really? what happened to Bill would never do this because of you know culture, integrity, that's what losers do like the Colts, etc.

it’s been quite the reversal here to see people who would snap at anyone critical of the Patriots, to now seeing talk of tanking. the blind homers have lost their minds and don’t know what to do.
