Nostalgic Music Thread

Thanks for this. I’m a huge fan of his music and I’ve probably posted this already. This is a favorite of mine.

There's often really good guitar work on Dan Fogelberg songs, and you gave the thread a great example of that. (y)

RIP, brother.

One of the greatest bands I ever saw live, and I wasn't even a fan until then. My GF at the time got tickets, this was about 20 years ago, and they just blew me away with their talent, their stage presence, their performance, you just couldn't help yourself but dance and feel awesome.

Amazing band, that I wish I had appreciated before then.

I think this song was released 16 years ago and I'm not sure if that's old enough to be "nostalgic", but Tom Petty's gone and I love this song - replay it all the time. IMO, Petty is on the short list of best singer/songwriters ever, but may not be included in the top tier as much as he deserves.

Yes, superb, soulful band - I remember this one oh-so-well:

Song: Gimme Shelter (Live)
Artist: The Rolling Stones with Lisa Fischer

We watched a documentary last night called "20 Feet From Stardom" - it was about the change in the role of backup singers from the early 60s through the present.

Two of the featured singers were Merry Clayton, who sang the female lead on the studio version of Gimme Shelter, and Lisa Fischer, who's been on all of the Stones tours since 1989.

Another featured singer was Darlene Love, who many will recall not only from her singing, but also from her role as Danny Glover's wife in the Lethal Weapon movies.

I recommend the documentary - in addition to the backup singers, you'll see rock stars, producers, and engineers. And you'll hear some amazing voices. (Kudos here to Mrs. TR, who picked up the DVD at the library.)

I agree Tip - an excellent documentary, lots of insight into their world, I may have to watch it again sometime.

Scorsese has used this in 3 films. I thought it was more, but I looked it up and it's in Goodfellas, Casino & The Departed. It's a classic that totally stands the test of time.

Song: Song For America
Artist: Kansas

I have always liked progressive rock (ELP, Yes, Moody Blues). Kansas fits in there somewhere.
