Brady retires

So does the prodigal son return to NE to sign a 1 day deal or nah? I'm not fussed either way, but might be nice given the way he finished his time in NE.

A little sad, but now he can preserve his health, though I do admit I figured he would play a few more years.

I would say the divorce wasn't just about football, because why retire when the divorce isn't even a year old?

This puzzles me too. I think a little different about it that you do. Maybe I am giving him less credit as I believe he was willing to give up his family (unreal!) for what was behind door number 2. Door number two turned out to a goat on a post with Bob Barker talking about parting gifts from P&G. He wanted 3-4 more years. Believe like I do and you have less respect for Tom Brady, the man, than most people. I have less.

I actually hope that this retirement will turn out to be because he finally came to his senses and is now begging Gisselle to come back and that she gives it a go. I really do.

Otherwise, he made a really schmuck-y and selfish decision.

Really disappointed in the timing again to do it during Super Bowl time and take away from the 2 teams playing in the game. I don't believe him as I think he is going to have some good offers in March and he will want to play and will play. I think this time of year must be brutal for him when he is not in the SB given how many he has played in. I would imagine the pain is awful and the thought of retirement gnaws at him and then the SB ends and the winner gets the media love for about a week and then the offseason begins and the fever to play starts all over.

This is unbelievably simplistic and myopic as well. If you've known anyone who has gone through a divorce it is never just one thing, there are layers and complexities.

Thanks for the memories, Tom.
You helped write one hell of a story.

Thanks Chevs. Hopefully we can turn this thread into more of an appreciation thread.

I am the same age as Tom Brady.

From the Jets game where he replaced Bledsoe, through the end of 2006, the only home regular season or playoff game I missed was the Cleveland game in '03 (because my father's wake was held that day). In '07, my first son was born and I started losing my desire to spend a whole Sunday away from my most favorite human. I went to about 50% of games (including all of the playoff games) for the next two season before another favorite human joined us. I have probably been to no more than a dozen in-person games since then. No regrets whatsoever.

But I am grateful for the weekly 3-hour chunks of time I spent bouncing my baby boys on my knee, to watching them crawl around, to sitting right beside me as we cheered on #12 and the New England Patriots together.

There may be a better QB to come along someday but I highlight doubt any fan, of any single franchise will ever receive what Tom Brady helped to bring to us for two decades. I had detached myself from him over the past 3 seasons but the ole' mental Rolodex is certainly hyperactive this AM.

Thanks for the memories, Old Man ;)

I know a lot of people are skeptical but I believe this is finally it for Tom and this time he did it the right way. I hope the Pats sign him to a 1 day contract and he retires as a Patriot. Congrats to the GOAT, TB12, TFB!

Maybe it's because I'm an unsentimental bastard, but I see the 1 day contracts as a bit of a joke and does nothing for me. His career was what it was, real and spectacular.

To be quite frank, the 1 day contract isn't for us, it's for him to show appreciation for everything he accomplished as a Patriot.

I'll leave it at this, "for him to show appreciation" would indeed be for us and is unnecessary.
