OK updating thoughts after I’ve seen more tape. I thought $9M was steep initially for a TE2 but now I think this kid is a WEAPON.

I skipped over his 2022 season tape because he was the 4th option after Hill/Waddle. But if one looks earlier like 2020, he has a lot to like:
  • He can run all the Gronk intermediate and deep routes well
  • Great hands especially in traffic
  • Red zone weapon
  • I trust him more than Parker and maybe even Thornton for the same receiver routes.

Now I think the new base offense might be 2TE.
JuJu - Hunter - Gesicki - Bourne

then Thornton off the bench for 3WR formations, and Parker even more buried as WR4 (Parker is useless as everyone above is better than him)

I think this could be a better thought out post. In Miami last year, Waddle and Hill accounted for over 3060 yards, more than all of the Patriots WR and RB receiving yards combined.

Clearly he can’t get open like those guys, so his production slid. There is no reason he can’t be a TE 1A or 1B in NE with Henry and produce 500 yards with the current WR core.

With this signing I don't see Pats going for a WR1 anymore.

It means they'll roll out with

-Parker
-Juju
-Thornton
-Bourne
-Henry
-Gesicki

Although if Bourne is able to return to his productivity with McDaniels it might just work out.

Agree this offense is set. Fix the OLine and O’Brien will have this offense humming

Thanks yeah I updated my thinking (see later posts). Was still reeling from the Jakobi for JuJu swap and then reacting to the 9M for a second tight end. But I think Gesicki will do really well here. Could out up double digit TDs.

I don't either.

$9M is steep for a TE2. But I love this guy’s height and hands in the red zone 100X more than I trust Parker for chuck it plays. Parker basically has no role anymore, I think.

Gesicki caught for 360 yards last year in 17 games. He’ll probably do the same here as TE2

If he produces more than that, it then means Thornton or Bourne sat a lot and increases the chance Thornton is a bust pick or Bourne ends up criminally underused again. 2TE means fewer 3-WR plays
I'm all for trading Parker...not a fan.

This guy fights for the ball and has good hands. Like a power forward in basketball. Could score 10 TDs next year, especially off red zone play action in a 2TE formation.

Team has too many WRs now. Trade Parker away who is obsolete with Gesicki better for red zone jump balls and Thornton better for deep plays.
Yes! Trade him for a better WR...upgrade.

So has the ship sailed on getting WR1?

I think this guy’s good enough that the Pats should consider that he plays over 70% of all offensive snaps. That’s a lot of 12 personnel. A lot of attacking the middle of the field with two tight ends, and a lot of running plays and play action and motion. But then who are the 2 wide receivers? Looks like Bourne and JuJu. Thornton is then the 3rd WR as a vertical threat.

I’ve come around and am very bullish on Gesicki.

1. Bill O’Brien went from developing Gronk and Hernandez, to going to Penn State. He immediately recruited 6’6 Gesicki to join Penn State. I think Gesicki is Gronk-like in the passing game (but a poor blocker). This kid has phenomenal hands, is uniquely acrobatic, and can run every single Gronk intermediate and deep route.
2. The 2TE offense should be the new majority base offense. Gesicki is better than pretty much every WR. I think he’s better than JuJu. Would keep Gesicki on the field as much as possible except for a must-have short yardage play, but even then he might be useful to keep in for play action purposes.
3. He’s on a 1-year prove it deal. I think he’s going to be hungry for a thousand yards.
4. Gesicki is a lot more acrobatic than Hunter Henry who is a more lumbering crafty TE.

I think a thousand yard 10TD season is possible with this player. Gesicki, Bourne, Mondre are the 3 best offensive players on this unit.

Ok dew we get it. You hate BB drafts. Your starting to remind me of Marshawn Lynch. Saying the same thing over & over again.
