Of course nobody should live their life saying "oh no, I might get raped today!" and shut themselves up in their home in fear. But can't there be a middle ground between that, and "hey, let me go drink until I'm incoherent, and flirt with some douchebag and follow him around while wearing a nametag that says "DTF" and telling him and all his friends it means that I'm "down to ****". I mean, yes that doesn't give him a right to rape her. But it's still stupid. To use your stairs analogy, should you get totally wasted and then try to balance yourself on the edge of every flight of stairs you see? I mean, if you can avoid making it easier for bad things to happen to you, shouldn't you do so? I always thought getting completely wasted was generally considered a stupid and risky thing to do, for a whole list of reasons that have nothing to do with rape. That's why you're always told to "drink responsibly".
