Don't the Patriots HAVE to spend almost all of that cap space, no matter what? Is the issue the length of the FA contracts?

On one hand, no, that's ridiculous.
On the other hand, yes...these are pretty competitive people we're talking about, and it isn't like he wasn't paying attention to how the football season ended. If nothing else, it's a measure of where the bar is currently set.

It's not the cap. It's the real money Kraft spent out of his pocket. The guaranteed money which almost equalled what he spent when he bought the team.

Belichick is a grown man who has always done 'what's best for the team' in his view, with the goal to win as many games as possible. That hasn't changed 1 iota from the day he signed.

I agree. Bill is as competitive as they come. He is aware of the score right now and knows he needs to answer this season.

I disagree. They know the score at One Patriots Place and they want to tie it up. This is a good thing. I want them hair on fire this season to get back to winning at all costs.

I don't think you understand what highly competitive means. He wants to do his best. Period. He wants to do his best. Do you think he wouldn't try as hard this year if the Pats had won the superbowl and the Bucs had gone 7-9? No, he'd try just as hard. What some other team did, what the Bucs did, is irrelevant. He doesn't need to answer what they did last year or what he did last year or what anyone did last year. He will make decisions for this year because he is driven to win. It's no different with Brady. Brady is going to do his best whether the Pats won the superbowl last year or went 7-9. Neither Belichick nor Brady are doing anything differently this year because of what a former player or a former coach did last year.

He said in the interview you keep misinterpreting that the Pats are in the business of winning. Every year he will spend to the cap, often juggling to spend MORE this year by juggling singing bonuses.

I think you know this, so I wonder why you think spending to the cap this year is different from any other year and why Kraft is upset.

It's not about Bill not giving his best. It's about having Brady one up him. You guys can pretend that last season is not motivating Bill differently all you want. He hears the whispers about how it was really Brady that was the Patriot Way and that has to motivate him differently and more fervently. And like I said that is a good thing for us. I want a pissed off Bill will something to prove. I would imagine there is a part of him that likes it too.

He talked about the lousy drafts and how the process changed this year as a result. He is not looking at another middler season as being satisfactory IMO. But that is what we will get with Cam. I really hope we either trade up in the draft or Jimmy shakes loose.

You do realize that Belichick won Super Bowls before Brady was in the league, right? He has more Super Bowls than Brady. I really doubt BB is sitting there mulling and thinking about his revenge tour because Brady won the Super Bowl last season.

I think the fact that the team looked pretty bad at times and was lacking a ton of talent is enough fuel to drive BB to make a much stronger team this year.

Call me crazy, but I doubt BB is losing any sleep over Brady having success outside of NE. He has his hands full with the Pats.

When Brady Returns to New England . Go nuts with all the Brady BB matchups & posts. Right now stop mentioning Brady on patriots threads . The drafts in 2 weeks. We need to fix weakneness at QB , WR & CB.

Why would he not say this to King. He did it. Because as he said, "We are in the business to win games." Not the business to spend as little money as possible. Brady is great player even if Bill is a great coach. You don't need to try so hard.

Think about what you're saying here. If BB is MORE motivated this year because the Bucs won a superbowl, then had the Bucs gone 6-10 he would have been LESS motivated today.

You cannot have both. You cannot say it isn't about BB not giving his best and also say is is giving more because the Bucs won.

This whole conversation is ridiculous.
