What is the best beach in New England?

I haven't been to a beach on the east coast since I was a teenager so for me, it was always Old Orchard Beach and driving go karts at Funtown USA. I've been to a lot better beaches since then but that place holds a lot of good memories of me.

I like Old Orchard not so much for the beach, as I said I don't care for the ocean, but for the scene down there. Caught Motley Crue and Tesla down there in the early 90s. Great times.

glad you got a yuk Hawgie after the countless laughs you've given me ovah my board time here (y)

the best part of living here (in Summer) is being 1 1/2 miles from either The Bay or The Backside (Ocean) beaches

I swim only on the Bayside (warm waters) and people watch on The Backside since the water is so cold out there the bikini pokies can entertain even the most casual observer of the passing scene 😎

also being comped drinks at BeagleBay's bar don't hurt ;)

after reading of your World traveling exploits from like trekking the Patagonian region, golfing the Irish shrines of endless green, rubbing and tipping elbows w/ celebrities reknown you (as memory serves) seemingly encounter as they visit Boston and it's environs, it seems to me Eastham may be too tame for you

it's WAAY too chill here.....perhaps if this town had a Mill Hill Club (Circa 1974-ish) now, a championship golf course and mountain ranges, you could find purchase here

September is good since the weather is still warm, the people traffic is down, the restaurants and beaches are wide open and everyone (see: Mayor Larry Vaugh) is having a wonderful time --- still, it's prolly too chill for a Wild Man like you :pirate2:

You're way too kind. Eastham is actually my favorite part of the Cape because it's way down there past most of the scrum. There is nothing like a little midnight surfcasting at Coast Guard Beach while the lighthouse cuts mighty beams through the misty fog. Plenty of good memories down that way.

The Mill Hill Club. God. I was there one blurry evening during a nasty Nor'easter. I'd just had some wisdom teeth removed and was enjoying the song stylings of the great Paul Wayne sonically enhanced by Percosets and White Russians when I spied a girl I knew from work and I attempted to talk to her. However, due to my complete inability to do anything but mumble, communication was impossible and got even worse as a hole in the roof decided to open at that very moment and cold rain poured all over my head as she looked on in disbelief. I excused myself to find a towel, because there was no coming back from that. Check, please! Plenty of embarrassing memories on Olde Cape Cod, too, but that's a different thread.

Old orchard beach brought a lot of memories for me also. Love fun town golf carts. Used to go there in the late 70s to the mid 80s. That was a great. When you had the drive-in theaters up the road and the lonely. I remember staying at these old dilapidated cabins for like five or 10 bucks a night. Eventually we just started going there for free. The rats were massive oh who is going to complain when it was free lol.

Martha's Vineyard count? south beach is one my wife and I enjoy when we go to the vineyard (usually for a short vacation but missed last year due to that Covid thing you may have heard about)
in my younger days (80's) the Hampton strip was the place to be.

I was there last weekend for the 4th. The most impressive part of OOB for me was all of the smoking; both butts and weed. If there were a world championship event for ripping heaters, it would be held annually in Old Orchard Beach.

It was fun for the kids because they could roam around with some freedom but I couldn't even get away from the second-hand smoke on the beach itself. It was really quite astonishing.

I lived in Newport for over 20 years. Which one we have few very popular. .1st & 2nd beach , gooseberry, hazards , or the point.

Easton was my fave at the time which was 35 plus years ago but I liked them all. We would sail over to Block Island, which I loved as well.... Growing up a good friends of ours had a beautiful sailboat 34 footer we’d go out on it all the time. Once we graduated he went into the coast guard in Newport so spent a ton of time there until they got transferred to Alaska.

Locals just called it first beach. I just didn't like coming out of water seaweed on my legs. I did my swimming jumping off the pier next to Causeway. The best waves were at 2nd & cliff walk.

Ogunquit is spectacular. Of course, if you go in the water up to your waist and your leg is bitten off by a shark you won't know it until you fall over. Brrrr...

Skaket Beach on the Cape looked gorgeous this am

The fam and I will be home next month for a week. We plan to go over to either MV or Nantucket for a day. This Lowell boy managed to avoid ever going to either growing up.

For a day trip, which would you recommend? We won't be beaching that day although we would appreciate pretty ones.

TIA!

I went to North Hampton Beach for the first time earlier this week. Much less crowded and easier to park than Hampton Beach.

And of course, I had to test the zoom on my new phone when a pair of lifeguards were chatting. Purely for science of course.

A day trip? MV. Nantucket is too far for a day.

Go to MV, head straight to Edgartown, get a seat up on the deck of the Seafood Shanty, and just soak it all in.

Take a walk along South Beach. If you have time, do a Jaws tour. Go to the nude beach at Gay Head. (I have an outstanding story about that place, but don’t have time to type it out. Let’s just say that I was 22, there was a pair of sisters who enjoyed that particular beach.. etc.).

I love MV. Need to buy a place there when the market levels out.

We've rented the same McMansion directly on the beach in Corolla many times. Love OBX.

Cheers

I've fished a lot out of Oregon Inlet. Love the Outer Banks but it's too cold in the winter to retire there, regrettably.
