We're on to Buffalo: Gamete Thread

While nobody has more respect for draft pundits than I do, let me ask you a question.

If they redid the 2021 draft over do you think the QBs would come off the board in the same order?

As a refresher, here's the order from last year.

1. Lawrence
2. Wilson
3. Lance
4. Fields
5. Jones

Since you seem like a bright guy and some of us are probably a little delusional about the guy we ended up settling for, why don't you
tell us how it should have gone?
Mills should have went higher. The Tejans already have their next QB.

Are you asking for a revisionist take with hindsight? It appears that is what you are asking but I can't be sure from the wording. If my assumption is correct... I think it would be hard to make any kind of evaluation on Lance because he hasn't played much (not sure what that means really, could be good, could be bad). So I would not like to put him in the order but will leave that to you instead.

With that in mind;
  • Lawrence
  • Fields
  • Jones
  • Wilson
How about you?

That's just me. I'm higher on Fields still than most though.

As bad as we have had it, I feel sorry for Jets fans.
That's something I can never do.

Jets fans deserve exactly what they get. And when they draft another QB in the top 5 in three years, and they spend all offseason telling us how awesome Geno Smith 2.0 is, remember you showed this empathy, and wonder why you did. :coffee:

This was considered to be a strong QB class.
So far, Mac has had the best year of any in that class.
I do think that Lawrence would still be the first QB drafted based on his potential and talent. If the other teams from 2 on could have a do over, they would pick Mac.

Anyone that believes the 49ers wouldn't choose Mac second if given a redo is kidding themselves.

jimmy's hurt AGAIN...i think kyle would take any warm body! 😄

Jimmy is always hurt and it's always the same kind of injury - a sprain. Can people be injury prone? When injuries are always related the way his are there's a genetic component
to evaluate. Here's a list of injuries. Every injury is a sprain of some sort. (ACL is technically a sprain)

Injury History

DateLeagueInjuryDetails
Sep 18, 2016NFLShoulder A/C Joint SprainGaroppolo returned to the #2 role behind Tom Brady in Week 5.
Sep 23, 2018NFLKnee ACL Tear Grade 3Garoppolo tore his left ACL late in Week 3 and missed the rest of the season. He had surgery Oct. 3.
Sep 20, 2020NFLPedal Ankle (high) Sprain Grade 3Garoppolo picked up a high right ankle sprain during the Week 2 win against the Jets. He missed two games
Nov 1, 2020NFLPedal Ankle (high) Sprain Grade 3Garoppolo suffered an ankle injury during Week 8's contest at Seattle. He missed the rest of the season.
Oct 3, 2021NFLLeg Calf StrainGaroppolo sustained a calf injury during Week 4's contest against the Seahawks

Now he's sprained his thumb where the ligament inserts to the bone.
All his injuries point to a genetic issue causing weak fibrous connective tissue (ligaments and tendons) and the pattern will continue with him til the day he retires imo.
Next possible bad injury? Just a guess - he's the right age for an achilles injury.

There was a time when my frustration with frequently-injured athletes caused me to conclude that most of them were "soft" and/or milking those injuries. Then I had a conversation with my PCP at Lahey, who is also a sports fan, and he told me that there are people who are absolutely physically and genetically more prone to certain types of injuries than most other people. I remember him specifically citing Tim Naehring, a very promising Red Sox player in the late '90s, whose career could just never get off the ground due to repeated injuries. Just the way it is with some, I guess.
