Mac Jones Injury Watch - Update 30 Sept - Mac is out v Packers

I don't believe that Alex Smith belongs on that list. In my opinion he was certainly an above average QB for both the 9ers and Chiefs. Harbaugh fell in love with Kap which lead to him going to the Chiefs.. The Chiefs saw something in Mahomes and hit the jackpot. Never had a chance in Washington playing with inferior talent then almost losing his leg.
Yeah, this is the way I see Smith as well.

Agreed. He had a rough go the first few years, but the Niners were legitimately bad then. He more than redeemed his career especially with the Chiefs. He might not have been worth the first pick in hindsight (Rodgers being miles away better obviously), but he is by no means a bust or deserving of being lumped with all the other QBs that didn't pan out.

He's fortunate that he got a second chance. Initially, he never looked good at all.

I must assume the assumption is one needs a "top 5" QB to win the SB and or that only QBs taken in the "top 5" are destined to be elite?

Some Recent QBs who developed into elites (All-pro, SB Winners) over time

Tom Brady (6th Round)
Kurt Warner (UDFA)
Rich Gannon (4th rounder by the Pats to play RB)
Aaron Rogers (remember his draft day experience)

The more fun list - A selection of recent "top 5" QBs who maybe didn't work out
David Carr
Joey Harrington
Alex Smith (bet the niners wish they had this one back)
JaMarcus Russell - LOL
Mark Sanchez
Sam Bradford
Blake Bortles
Jamis Winston
Marcus Marriota
Jared Goff
Carson Wentz
Mitch Trubusky
Baker Mayfield
Sam Darnold

I appreciate the post but Brady, Warner, Gannon were all pre-2000. and Rodgers was a first rounder. These days you gotta take a QB early especially with the 5 years of contract control. This is why BB went Mac the first time he ever used a first on a QB.

Mac is part of the solution, Mac is not a problem. Rookie QB who made the Pro Bowl. The problem is crappy assistant coaching changed Mac from a deadly short passer field general, changed his game for the worse to chasing deeper passes and it’s starting to ruin the kid. Abandon the whole crappy Parker jump ball offense. Go dink and dunk at 75% completion rate all day to Meyers, Bourne, Agholor, Henry, and Jonnu

I feel like I read this somewhere else on this board today....

:p

I can't believe we're sitting here 5 1/2 days later considering the possibility that Mac might play Sunday.

No way is this happening and if it somehow does it would be extremely stupid for the entire organization to allow it. I don't believe we are
that dumb. I don't know why we would bother to put him on the practice field even if he wasn't actually "running around" as was reported.

So maybe things weren't as bad as it initially appeared and maybe all the talk of tightrope surgery was completely unnecessary, but nobody can tell me
that it's a smart idea to put him out there with ANY KIND of high ankle sprain so soon after the injury.

Mac is not playing. I don't even want him to play.

Given the Tua events, there is NO WAY the Patriots would consider it. And yes, I realize they are VERY different situations physically, but the criticism should Mac re-injure the ankle (or sustain ANY other injury) would be ridiculous. The Destroyer has all the first team reps. He is playing.

I think there is a better shot of Zappe playing than Mac.

I'm inclined to agree with you, especially if Mac were to re-injure the ankle. The furor about Meanie Billy forcing Poor Mac to play on an ankle featuring multiple, bleeding compound fractures would make the Tua controversy look like a footnote. The Pink Hats here would be orgasmic. But, those fools aside, it's not worth it.

I think it is just Bill speak so GB might spend a little time preparing for Mac. I am pretty certain Hoyer will play BUT if Bill does put Mac out there, it just further confirms to me that he really needs to go.

One other thing to consider here though, Bill does not want to see a 1-3 record given the terrible start to last season so he may be desperate to get Mac out there to somehow stay at .500.

Ask yourself a question. What difference would it make if Green Bay did prepare for Mac? Would it make the Hoyer experience any more difficult to defend? He's
fucking Uncle Rico.

I always believe the Pats have a shot of winning, but not with Hoyer in there against an imperfect, but talented Packers team with a fine front 7 and plenty of weapons
for Rodgers to use. Getting Bahktiari back in at LT last week made their OL look a lot better. It's just not going to happen for us this week so I won't spend a second
of my time hoping we can shock the world.

This isn't karma talking, either. Hoyer is not a competitive option as, say, Teddy Bridgewater or plenty of other backups around the league would be.

I've been saying this since last year. Why hasn't Bill gotten a more competent back up?
