  • Like so so many quotes, it began with the Bard.

King John, Act IV, Scene 2

    SALISBURY:
Therefore, to be possess'd with double pomp,
To guard a title that was rich before,
To gild refined gold, to paint the lily,
To throw a perfume on the violet,
To smooth the ice, or add another hue
Unto the rainbow, or with taper-light
To seek the beauteous eye of heaven to garnish,
    Is wasteful and ridiculous excess.

The modern version is clearly a garbled synthesis of what Salisbury had to say, but that's where it started.

    Cheers, :toast:
Thanks, Hawg. I'm not getting burned out. I've done less film review this year wh/ means I'm relying more on the media/amateur scouts than last year. I've found a few who had similar thoughts as I did on last year's WR group and I'm leaning on them a little. Plus, I'm going to focus on 1st rounders then late round guys. BB won't take a WR from the 2nd or 3rd rounds this year bc of too many other needs. I expect Edelman to be gone, Collie to be back & Amendola to be healthier. Dobson, KT and Boyce will take a leap, Harrison and Moe will or won't but either way we're better off than last year.

As for the futility of it all, LOL, I couldn't agree more. We don't have access to interviews, medicals and we're always having to guess wtf BB is planning since it's almost never clear.

Thanks for your concern about burn out. At this point I've cut back & I'm having fun.
I do have a Washburn acoustic. I made mention one year to the wife and kids while we were listening to some guy at the beach strumming I'd like to learn and the next thing you know Santa delivered!

If love to be able to play along with some of my rock classics that start slow acoustically. And who knows. If I started to pick it up I wouldn't hesitate to get a mid level electric, small amp, and a couple pedals to kick it into gear at the transition. I'm thinking Black Diamond from KISS. Metallica has a bunch. Damn Yankees. My iPods full of em.

We'll see. With an 11 yr old and a 7 yr old both in hockey, baseball/softball, lacrosse, and him in flag football and urging to play tackle next year free time is ... fleeting to say the least!!!!

Probably just a pipe dream to be shelved until my later years.

But lessons or at least meeting up with someone who could point in the right direction is probably the best way for me to go.
I tend to jump into these other authors crime series from the first book and if they're decent read the whole series. Nothing irks me more than to jump into a book I'm unfamiliar with that constantly alludes to a background storyline I know nothing of because I'm in book 3 of a series and the meat and potatahs happened in book 1. Lol
Glad you liked Child 44. That one gripped me. The other 2 follow ups are good as well. I'll put your recommendation in q. The Girl With the Dragon got me hooked on Nordic detective genre big time. I tore through all of Jo Nesbo's work besides the latest, Mankell's Wallander series, and I'm in the 2nd Adler-Olsen Dept. Q series. All of them good.

I was gonna put the books down a bit and FINALLY try and give myself a true concerted effort to get some guitar basics down- always been a dream.

But I keep stumbling onto good reads and don't have enough free time. Oh well. Another day.
I have to agree. He looked like a beast out there last night. He was consistent and aggressive and everywhere. My eyes were drawn to him.
She doesn't reply to anything...I should say she only replies to three people, and then she just espouses her stupidity.
Thanks. His other grandmother, the cold b*tch that she is, is a photography buff and took it. I had to get her permission to get a copy of it. I hate people.
PLEASE DON'T LEAVE THAT THREAD. I'm so fed up with the bullshit that I'm likely to say shit that I shouldn't. AND I don't care. If he's allowed to post the crap that he does, then I should be allowed to state my opinions of his "opinions".
