agree on the "gradual transition". when the games are real, the 1's are in all the time, and teams are game planning, the O might have some serious growing pains, which will likely mean real pains for whoever is the QB. Brissett is the better "pinata" to start the season. I hope I'm wrong and the O is solid but will watch and seeOnce the season starts the practice schedule will be cut way back in favor of recovery and installation meetings, etc.
We'll see what Mayo says about our starting QB soon, but if it is Jacoby then I have to wonder how many reps Drake will
get with the ones and whether his improvement will be slowed.
One scenario that I find plausible is that they let the vet start and ride with him until he plays himself out of a job. If we
start 0-4 and he is making turnovers and unable to hit open guys then I believe they'll make the switch. Another is that
we are way behind at halftime and bring Maye in with the ones as a relief pitcher to see if he can move the team better.
I suppose Sunday night won't really change the plan either way. because it strikes me we seem bound and determined to make this
a gradual transition for Maye and our longer-term benefit to the extent that it is possible. It's delaying the inevitable and
I don't hate that plan.
So Mayo not only doesn't get to buy the groceries, he can't even decide the recipe?Doesn't matter what he says though, apparently the GM makes all the roster decisions, including who plays.
Exactly! And it’s absolutely fine by me.So Mayo not only doesn't get to buy the groceries, he can't even decide the recipe?
I know alot of people are going to be happy with moving Onwenu outside, count me out on that.....one injury leads to three changes, that is bad for the oline.
do you want a guy in a position where he is really good or in a position where he's better than average? i think putting him in the "better than average" for more than emergency/spot duty is weakening the whole operation vs. having positions of weakness that are known and needing to account for them. defenses are going to have an easier time moving their guys around to exploit matchups when NONE of the ol is at their best positions.
imo of course and i'm hardly an expert.
Nah, it’s being left to a guy who hasn’t called offensive plays in what 14+ years?Exactly! And it’s absolutely fine by me.
It makes me like the Mayo pick for HC more and more. He is really just a figurehead. I’m sure he has input with the defense, but the offense is not being left to him.
Otoh, don't you want your best players out there on the field?
Ideally, Onwenu is the RG. But if you don't have a RT who can hold up against a rush, wouldn't you rather have Onwenu at RT and his capable backup at RG to be on the field?
I mean, Robinson may not be as good as Onwenu at RG but he may not miss by much so the total value may be higher than having Onwenu at RG and a turnstile at RT.
Win/win to me as long as the goal is to get or develop a pair of solid OTs for the future.
