2025 Draft

Last night I did a deep dive on WRs in the last 30 years.
I could only find one guy ONE, who was over 6 foot and 185 or less (built like a high schooler) who has been a good one or two option.
That guy was Devonte Smith, and he is most certainly not a number one.
It’s looking now like Hunter won’t fall to the Pats, and I’m really happy about this. He would be the first guy in the history of the NFL with his build to come in and be a long term number one option who can command 8 to 12 targets a game.
The closest thing I could find after Devonte Smith was Steve Smith. While he weighs less he was shorter and built like a tank. And a lot of Steve’s game was just that he was one of the toughest SOBs ever to play the game.
It’ll be a blessing if the Browns or Giants take Hunter.

Anyone else in favor of just locking down the OL in round 1?

Trade down, take Grey Zabel.
Use some of that ammo to trade up, take Ersery.
With Onwenu and Moses, that is a line that will move some meat and wear down the opponent, plus Zabel can play all sorts of positions to give you flexibility.

There's quality depth at WR, RB, DT, and Edge that they can grab in rounds 2-4.

While I want the shiny toy in Hunter or Carter, I'm thinking this might be the best way to approach this draft.

It’s the drought time before the draft…everything and anything will be said. ☕
Yeah, this is the site that pops up on my Microsoft News feed with headlines like 'PATRIOTS TRADE FOR 9GAZILLIONDOLLAR WR', and you click on it, and it says 'Patriots would definitely acquire this guy, based on these voices in my head'

From now until the 24th, we will be getting a lot of disinformation. This is fed by agents to the media. Also teams GM's will try to plant stories that might scare other teams away from certain prospects that they want.

I keep an eye on reputable sites and any adjustments to their rankings. They want to get them as close to the actual picks so they can brag about how accurate they were.

Just noticed that the Reception Perception guy was on with the Patriots Press Pass guys. @chevss454 seems to like his analysis. Haven't watched this, but I probably will.

Sounds like he's breaking down current Patriots WRs and draftable WRs.

This is GREAT. (Terrific discussion of individual skill sets of the players mentioned)

4:00 Baker, Polk. Harmon gives great insight into why they didn't perform well. Talks about poor coaching from the Pats, not using them to advantage.

10:00 Boutte. Another WR used wrong at X. Will be competing against Baker, Hollins for X. Baker and Hollins are better tracking the ball. Could use a faster X opp. Diggs.

12:45 Best X receivers for Pats in the draft. Hunter would be perfect for X for the Pats but prob won't happen. Harmon thinks he's generational. Why Tet McMillan isn't a pure X.
Talks about Golden, Jayden Higgins also not being an X in the NFL. Kyle Williams does have X skills even if he's not the best speed separator. Discusses why Williams and Tre Harris (Ole Miss) are better X WRs than Tet (X is about skill more than speed).
They can play X "sacrificial X" role in the NFL even though they aren't purely X vertical threats. Curls, comebacks, slants etc.

25:00 Best YAC receivers - Hunter by far, Luther Burden because of stocky build/strength, Jack Bech (TCU) from Slot...tough, competitive & beat 1st tackler 85% of the time.

33:00 Best fits for Drake Maye/QB friendly WRs - Jaylen Noel would be ideal from the Slot. Jack Bech athletic and dependable (Slot). Emeka Egbuka a better version of Polk (Slot/Flanker) . Kyle Williams (Slot, Flanker, Sacrificial X). Pop Douglas & Diggs are already QB friendly. All these guys can move the chains and they'll be there when Maye needs them.

If you know nothing about the WRs in this draft, listen to this...it's all you really need to know about the good ones for the Pats for the draft.

Looks like Carr had a setback with his shoulder. The Saints may need to draft a QB sooner than later.
I don’t think Kellen Moore will feel pressure in his first year to get a QB he’s not completely on board with though.
But hopefully they will be in the running to trade up.

No one is trading up for Sanders, or picking him in the top 3.

They might just run it back with Spencer Suckbag for a year and tank for Arch.
