2025 Draft

In fairness, you can do this most any year with someone who dropped and ended up being a great player and most any position.

People overdraft OTs because they're critical and incredibly rare, and you often need to take a couple swings at it.

A JAG OT would be a massive upgrade over what we have, and having something there worth having is important. I was as big a backer as anyone that we could have a functional OL with a hole at LT, but that's not our only hole. We don't know what we have at LG, and our new C has a problem pass blocking.

I'm all about trading down, but I don't think Campbell is a JAG. I think he walks in and is a top 15 LT from day 1. I don't think he's ever going to be top 3, but I expect he's in the top 10 range for a long time. I'm far from the only one who thinks that, BTW. I'm most drafts, that's arguably not worth the #4 overall. In this draft, I think it is.

Will Campbell discussion is about 24m in.

Nice job with the alternative POV. But I stand by my analysis.

If the Patriots were in any other division, I'd agree.
Campbell struggles against long pass rushers (6'4"+), and that's evident on every piece of tape I've seen on him.
It just so happens, every team in the Patriots division has at least two of those types of pass rushers now, as their primary guys. I don't know if that's unique, or that's NFL-wide, I haven't dove that deep past the AFC East, but I think that would affect his 'top-15' status, just in the division games.

Is it still better than Verdarian Lowe? yes. Is it worth burning #4 overall on? I don't really think so.
Every OT gets beat, and they all have weaknesses, especially before getting NFL coaching.

The only (non-transition) players who have a real chance to end up as OT1 are Campbell, Simmons (who is an ongoing injury risk because of the proportions of his legs), and Ersery (who has a significantly lower floor). Anyone else is a pure projection, like Membou, Grant, etc.

Personally, my favorite likely value is Ersery, who could be a dominant player if he hits.

Again, I'm all in favor of trading down, but the other areas of need (WR, Edge, DL, RB, TE) all have a lot of quality depth in this class. OT has maybe 5 guys who are likely to be able to walk in and give significant lift, then a massive drop off. If we could trade down and up and somehow end up with Zabel, Ersery, and some extra draft capital, I'd be thrilled.

But at the end of the day, you may need to stick and pick. You need to have a name to send up there. I'm betting it's either Campbell or Walker, and I think Campbell is the right pick. Walker is an amazing talent, but he's sub-250, which is awfully small for an edge rusher and too big for a Vrabel LB. It's not perfect value, but this draft is far from perfect.

Campbell started at OLT for 3 years. He gave up 3 sacks, 12 hits, and 30 hurries in those 3 years. He played in the SEC that has the best pass rushers, many over 6-4.
Those are the stats. Nothing made up.
Having said that, I would rather do a trade down and pick up OLT.
The most vital thing that must be done is to get a viable OLT.

Also, this. I tend to assume that most people are aware of the stats, but in draft prep that's often not true.

ESPN morning show (radio) discussing Saints QB situation and proposed they might be a team that could be interested in moving up to 4 to get Sanders. then again, they might sit tight and take Dart if sanders gone. who knows.

I would be shocked if Sanders goes top 10. I think teams are doing homework on him to take him in the 20-40 range. A team in the top 3 might try for Hunter then Sanders on the way back around, for example, possibly with a trade up. Or a team picking later which has a year or so until they need a QB might grab him late in the 1st.

But what do I know?

Look up your binky to see if the Pats have met with him

Abdul Carter is at Gillette having his 30 visit now.
No doubt assessing his intangibles since there's been a rumor going around that he's one of those guys who slacks at practices during the week but shows up for games.
Don't know how Vrabel would like that.

If I am the Saints, I stay put at 9 and see what happens. Either way, that trade wouldn't occur until after the 3rd pick is made on draft day to ensure Sanders was still available.

Says he'd retire if he can't play both ways. Supremely confident.

The 21-year-old won the 2024 Heisman Trophy after producing 92 catches for 1,258 yards and 16 touchdowns plus a rushing touchdown on offense while adding 36 total tackles, 11 passes defended, four interceptions and a forced fumble on defense. He's the only player in college football history to win both the Chuck Bednarik and Fred Biletnikoff Awards as the best defensive player and most outstanding receiver in a season, respectively.
Podell noted that Hunter played 713 offensive snaps and 748 defensive snaps in 2024. While the competition level in the NFL is much greater, the youngster is steadfast in his belief that he can sustain his production.
"I just feel very confident in myself, and I got a competitive spirit that I can do whatever I put my mind to, and I feel like I can do it," Hunter said.

You'd be crazy not to give him a shot at it.
I really don't get the 'he can only do one' people. WR/CB, he'll get max, what, 40 plays his way a game?

Why not? I'd let him do it. You can't have too many good CBs. He may not need to play every defensive snap, just the passing downs and nickel for sure.
We have 2 good CBs now but plenty of NFL teams have 3 good WRs.
Deion says he can do it. Let him try!

if we did get the chance to draft hunter I'd give him a package of D plays as other stated, like on obvious passing downs. for now we need him more as a WR.
perhaps a few hits by NFL level defenders will adjust his feelings on playing the whole game.

Wanna know why I hope like hell that the Patriots can't or won't draft this clown? This is why.

Hunter is going to make it until about week 11 before he’s injured.
The NFL ain’t Colorado.

Hunter saying that, and then Jeanty putting out there what he just did gives me whole different vibes on those two kids. Jeanty at 4. I'll take it.

And yes, I know why we probably won't, shouldn't etc, just want him on the roster, lol.
