This thread is for posting your thoughts about what's happening on the coaching front: who's on the hot seat and who will be the next coach fired.

Also, who should be Coach of The Year, who are the assistants that are likely to move up, and anything else (e.g. recent coaching decisions that directly affected winning and losing, such as clock management).

Let's start off the discussion with Mike McDaniel - I thought he was one bad loss away from getting fired and I thought it would happen yesterday. But the Fins upset the Bills, and probably ensured that their coach will remain in place for the rest of the year. Looking at their schedule, they're likely to get a few more wins this year - will it be enough to keep McDaniel in place in 2026? Let's hope so.

That Miami result means someone else is occupying the hottest of the hot seats - I think it's a toss-up between Brian Daboll of the Giants and Dan Quinn of the Commanders, with Daboll's buns being just slightly warmer. The Giants have three more games before their bye, with the Packers, the Lions and the Patriots on the schedule. Losing all three would mean a seven game losing streak for the Gmen - I think that might not be survivable.

Agree that McDaniel is (surprisingly) likely to hold on through the end of the year. I think Daboll could be fired by December and may be the only potential in-season firing remaining. I don't think Dan Quinn will lose his job after this season, that team is decimated with injuries.

Here's my hot seat list in order:
Daboll - gone no matter what
McDaniel - likely gone by virtue of new GM (if not Ross)
Kevin Stefanski - not all his fault but his time is simply up; they need to provide false-hope to their fanbase that "the new guy" is gonna fix it (but he won't)
Pete Carroll - this may surprise some but that team is better than their record yet they are playing completely uninspired football
Zac Taylor - probably not entirely fair but for as good as that offense can be, they are embarrassing on D and have been for multiple seasons now
Jonathan Gannon - I don't necessarily think he is gone but that team may not be getting any better and time could be up for Kyler Murray - wouldn't shock me to see them fully clean house if so

Wild card: Sean McDermott - he is wildly overrated and he's blown the Bills window; they can reload around Josh Allen but it will be with another coach at the helm

I think anyone interviewing for an NFL head coaching position next year is going to have to field the question: "How do you protect a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter?"

I can't recall ever seeing so many teams blowing big leads - I think in the next draft teams will be looking for "clock-killing Corey Dillon" type running backs.

Nice list of candidates for the Giants HC job, with discussion about each man:

I think Bill would crawl naked though Times Square for that job. But the Giants would have to be crazy to hire a 73 year old for HC.
That's why both things are possible.

The Commanders (Dan Quinn) are playing the Dolphins (Mike McDaniel) this weekend.

Both teams probably think that's a winnable game, but only one team will win.

I don't think either coach will get fired after this game, but the HC of the losing team is going to have a slightly warmer seat.

One more thing: the Commanders have lost their last five games, and they've lost each of the last four by more than 20 points. If they get blown out again, the "injuries, injuries, injuries..." excuse isn't going to cut it. Every team has injuries, it's up to the coaching staff to plug the holes, coach up the new guys, and put a competitive team on the field. And so far, that has not been happening under Dan Quinn.

Does anyone think that spags or Fangio gets another shot at head coach? I personally think they're both superior coordinators who aren't head coaches but you know that doesn't stop owners.🤣
I think they're all looking for the new hotness young offensive mind now.

Maybe Spags. Reports say the Giants have him at the top of their list.

The 64-year-old coach has deep ties to the Giants organization, having led their defense from 2007 to 2008 and again from 2015 to 2017, even stepping in as interim head coach during his final season.

Former Giants running back Rashad Jennings told TMZ Sports he believes Spagnuolo could be the right fit to lead the team again. “Out of all the coaches that have coached, I wouldn’t be surprised if they asked Spags to come back to lock down that defense and get an offensive-minded coordinator to take over the offense,” Jennings said.

Vic Fangio has expressed that he is currently happy in his role as the defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles and is not seeking a head coaching position again. His focus appears to be on continuing to improve the Eagles' defense rather than pursuing another head coaching opportunity. Sports Illustrated Wikipedia

I would bet the Giants burn a call to Lane Kiffin but he should just stay with Ole Miss.

Stefanski won’t be out work long either when the Browns let him go.

I think they will both get interviews for sure.

Kiffin's name has been mentioned, too. I wouldn't be a fan of the baggage he brings with him. I wouldn't blame him for leaving the meat grinder that the SEC is these days.

Nice to know josh McD isn’t goigng anywhere… :coffee: …at least for a few seasons. Some dumb owner will try him again if he makes Maye an SB champ
